This short documentary film follows Paul Labas, who is a third-generation slate maker born and raised in Granville NY. This small town rests on the border of Vermont and New York and is known as the colored slate capital of the world. The town’s development has historically relied on the success of the slate industry. But, as time moves on, both the town and the industry face many challenges - and Paul finds himself at the center of them.
Thank you to the town of Granville and Paul Labas for welcoming me into their lives to tell their story. This is not possible without you.
