How did you add drop shadow only to the corners of the pages in Illustrator?

I created black shapes behind the pages and blurred and distorted them. The Drop Shadow effect feature is faster but not realistic enough.

​@@YesImaDesignerOk, nice. So maybe a separate shape is not even necessary, given we can add multiple fills and effects to an object.. then could make a graphic style out of it. Ok, thanks, I'll try it.

Whats your view on the Esquire cover you showed ?....Apart from the colors i think its a total shambolic mess....but i bet experts will try and justify (no pun meant) the "design" choices

It is not the best cover I have to admit, but I quite like it still. It is clearly, intentionally breaking some design rules without messing up the visual hierarchy. The bravest detail is the main cover title: Owen Wilson. Both the typeface and the color clashes with the cover image and backdrop. I think they tried to align the cover with Owen Wilson's character and use an unconventional style.

It's not perfect for me yet. The problem with combinations needs to be done yet. How to properly design a Cover for a video, photo or picture. Including which types are appropriate in the design and how the correspondence between two/three different types was correct.
