This is art direction at its finest! I wish every art director is like this. Like going the extra mile to explain to his juniors what’s wrong, what to improve in the design, rather than being really vague.

Awesome direction! I love that you are able to point out the designs that need help and offer suggestions without talking down to her. I've had bosses in the past that never learned that skill. And if you've never designed a magazine or newspaper before, it is a pain in the butt. You have to make every page of every issue look consistent, regardless of the varying amounts of copy and photos.

I like this! It shows me how to think about a design as well as how to critique another without being unstructured or even offensive. Also love to see Chris running around the office and actually sitting down next to a designer to give them feedback in front of the computer screen instead of staying in the studio.

When I saw this video the first time almost 2 years ago I was in the process of launching my own agency. Helped me a lot and felt like "I would work for that weird designer monk for free if I get that level of feedback". Fast forward today, agency is doing well back here in France, I'm so grateful for that. But I rewatched this video and I still feel like working for free to get advices from you wtf Chris! Thank you so much for what the golden free content you provide us. From the look of things, you should start rethinking the numbers and aim to impact 2 billion people since you're definetely hitting the billion faster than ever! Cheers.

This is very valuable, thank you for being so transparent about your process. I found a way to watch this more productively, by trying to analyze the examples myself first and then listening to Chris explain them, this way it feels like I'm getting critique for my own interpretation
@pitershmitter99975 жыл бұрын
I was trying to find the reasons this video is so good, and it seems like thefuture makes videos like this one all the time. There is Chris, critique and work of someone of course. BUT, here we have example from thefutur studio, so it gives understanding what you need, to get in such kind of a studio. It seems more “real” or natural, like this work is for a client and this is part of the process to get it done (part of the process from thefutur sudio). Chris gives brilliant explanations and tips, as always, but maybe because here we have layout design with many different examples, Chris has more to say and explain, and can dive deep. So it seems like amount of information and its difference, alongside with overall feel from what I see makes this video so good and valuable for me. Ask me what ever you want if you need some more information! Sorry for my boring, unprofessional writing.

I feel accomplished as a designer because I was noticing your critiques before you gave them to her, but I wanted to point out that you had asked her what typeface she used and she didn't know off the top of her head. When I was in college last year, my professor asked this every single time we had a project or showed her an attempt at a design with a new font, she'd ask us the typeface. If we didn't know we were in trouble! 😅
