I started doing graphic scores back in the 1970s, not because I knew anything about them but it just seemed easier to notate what I was doing. I don’t do them now because there is no way I’m going to redo a piece once it’s recorded. I still have those old scores and you’ve inspired me to try to interpret once of them again. One score I did was quite complicated, done on a large sheet of graph paper, when an artist friend of mine saw it she though it was a drawing that I’d done and asked if she could have it, it hung on her wall for quite a while 😂.

That’s awesome. If you do end up interpreting a score, I’d love to hear it. This video got me thinking of some of the art my friend did in college. She would just doodle during theory but I think they would make for fun scores to interpreters. Anyways, Thanks for watching!

@@amberelmmusic Here in the UK a few years ago a CD was released called ‘Project Symbiosis’ this was musicians each producing their interpretation of a graphic score from the 1970s by a guy called Malcolm Pointon which was published in the UK ‘Practical Electronics’ magazine. I contributed my interpretation along with 9 others including Pointon’s original track from 1975. There was a later interpretation from 1978 , mine was from 2017 and some were from 2018. If you would like a copy of the CD I can let you have one if there’s some way I can have your address.

That's really cool. I've never seen graphic notation. It would be really interesting to see how different people interpret the same piece.

Thanks! I love the idea of different interpretations of the same material. I might do a follow up video doing exactly that at some point. Thanks for watching.
