WOW!! I learnt something additional REALLY useful when dealing with these functions. Thank you sooo much for the video. It's really good please don't stop making them. You explain things VERY well! Thanks again!

OMG finally someone mentioned how to tell the difference between one and two sheet... everywhere they just keep repeating that stupid equation over and over again where is not helpful for my problems! It's hard to think of look at the negative sign when all my force was on the sign of z and value of z... yeah our teacher and book did not even mentioned(or they did but I just did not understand it) it's not just about z, it's about x and y too. It feels good to finally understand something in this course lol.

@hohodsj yes. This is more easily seen when drawing your traces. With one subtracted term, you come out with an ellipse and two hyperbolas to trace as seen above in your one sheet hyperboloid. The two-sheet hyperboloid comes out with two negative values (or two minuses as you put it). So, when you go to draw your traces you get two hyperbolas and....an ellipse? ... you get more of an unreal ellipse and so basically they don't connect

ty~ so the easy way to tell if it's one sheet of two sheet is the number of the minus signs?

I need a formula for the surface area of a hyperboloid of height h, between the planes z=1/2h and z=-1/2h. I have calculated this area using numerical integration by summing the lateral area of truncated cones, but I need a formula for the area, if it exists. Can anyone help?

I’m sorry can anyone serve me the graciousness by solving this doubt of me:what if the X or the Y is sufficiently large enough such that the hyperbola alternates the axis on which it lies on?Then I don’t think I’ll be able to get the the shape of that hyperboloid of one sheet... Goodness!Im literally stuck over here for a day!Really really need someone to solve my query!
