Graphing in Algebra: Ordered Pairs and the Coordinate Plane

Alright, we've avoided this long enough! To do algebra, we can't just be all about solving equations, we eventually have to graph some stuff as well. Let's start with the easiest things to graph, lines. Here is a little introduction to the coordinate plane and how to graph lines.

Solving for the number 2 or second equation: Add the x and y Y0 = 1/2 (0) + 1 = (0,1) Y1 = 1/2 (1) + 1 = 1 (the x) + 1 (the y)= 2 or y is 2 = 1/2 * 1/1 = 2/1 or x is 2 Y2 = 1/2 (2) + 1 = 2 (the x) + 1 (the y)= 3 or y is 3 = 1/2 * 2/1 = 4/1 or x is 4 Y3 = 1/2 (3) + 1 = 3 (the x) + 1 (the y)= 4 or y is 4 = 1/2 * 3/1 = 6/1 or x is 6 Y0 = (0,1) Y1 = (2,2) Y2 = (4,3) Y3 = (6,4)

The slope is 2. Plug in any X value to find the coordinate of the y. For example, y=2(0)+3. 2(0) is 0, plus 3 is 3.

one dimension would be length only, that's a line. two dimensions is length and width, so that would be anything that fits into a plane, like any flat shape. three dimensions is length, width, height.

y=2x+3. if y=0 then you have to think what numbers to Multiply 2+3 can equal zero. if you put x=3/2 in to y= 2x* - 3/2+ 3 then you get y= 0 so x=3/2 is the Solution.
