For a complete lesson on graphing linear inequalities, go to www.MathHelp.com - 1000+ online math lessons featuring a personal math teacher inside every lesson! In this lesson, students learn to graph inequalities in two variables. For example, to graph y is less than x + 2, the first step is to graph the boundary line y = x + 2, using the chart method from lesson 4B. Note that greater than or less than means that the boundary line will be dotted, and greater than or equal to or less than or equal to means that the boundary line will be solid. To determine which side of the boundary line to shade, substitute a test point, such as (0, 0), into the original inequality, y is less than x + 2. Since (0) is less than (0) + 2, or 0 is less than 2, is a true statement, the side of the line that contains the point (0, 0) is shaded.

I guess you could put it that way. Yes, I agree. I do take notes, but what I find is that the notes don't help me really comprehend it as fully as it should if she taught it well. Math is one of my strengths, but the teacher really does make it or break it.

wow, now I completely get it!!!! The math teachers in school always go super fast and don't explain in depth and let me finish my notes. It's like they make math class function in a way so that only the kids in the 90's percentiles of standard testing or straight A's' in class.I am starting to think that maybe we shouldn't even go to school anymore. We could just learn this sh*t on our computers and work at our own pace and not have to worry about distractions or getting yelled at.

Did i just see someone say anyone can be a dentist, and thats what scrubs do when they cant get a real job? As much as you may dislike it, Dentists are Doctors. They spend eight years or more in medical school working there cans off all day to get where they are. The average human being does not have the drive to successfully complete medical school. Show some respect to Dentists. And as for the math video. Well this guy is just awesome :}

it is just for example. you could use -1 -2 and -3 if you wanted. or 14, 15, and 16. it is just easiest with 1, 0 and -1 because that is an easy place to label on the grid.

There is no need to make a chart and plug those random coordinates into the equation to get points to graph the line. If you know anything about y=mx+b form, you would know that in the equation y = -4x - 3, -3 is the y intercept and -4/1 is the slope. Skip the chart and go straight to graphing, saves time.

3x> = to 9 this is because you move the 2x the side left by subtracting from both sides because its and equation and then adding 6 on both sides to get ride of the negative 6 which leaves u with 3x>= 9 so you then simplify it by dividing it all by 3 giving x>=3

@NekoChanTan I'm assuming because those are the easiest numbers to input. I mean, if he were to pick 5, 6, and -7, it would be harder to graph those and connect them. If you have smaller, closer numbers, such as 1, 0, and -1, it's easier to plug them into the equation and do it, rather than larger, more unnecessary numbers. Why work hard when you don't have to?

@lalanto341 1,0,-1 are static #'s that can come from anything....Each value you choose for (x) will yield a different (y). Most people use 1,0,and -1 because they are the easiest to use in algebraic equations but if you wanted to you could use 9,6,3,0-3,-6,-9 or anything else you chose.

@ChiIdKiIIer I assure you I'm paying attention. I have an "A" in the class. I'm in all Honors classes and getting straight A's. The thing is, that not all teachers are excellent teachers. My teacher is one of those. She teaches much too fast and tests material on the day or the day after it has been first covered. The reason I have the "A" is that I get help from outside assistance solely. I do not need tutoring, I'm good at math. It's that the teacher goes too fast to actually learn it well.

@TheSoccerKitten You think the teachers are the problem when really it's the student. Don't get me wrong, there are terrible teachers out there but usually it's just because all students learn in different ways. The reason it's so easy to learn from videos like these is because it's a more personal way of teaching. Also people think that teachers spend hours teaching this when really they spent 20min and the rest of class is there for them to work on homework and ask questions
