its really interesting to consider how and why things have changed. On the one hand we went from a slower paced more centralized society. Everyone watched TV, there were limited amounts of channels (cable and Satellite were around but 90% was the same thing) You had a "dominant" culture based on commercials. If you remember the 90s you probably remember these things like Budweiser Frogs or Taco bell dogs. The movies were intended for everyone, and society was so much less "segmented" However because the TV is a fixed thing that did not travel, when you left your home you were disconnected. We did not even have Cell phones so if you needed to call someone you needed a pay phone and change. One the one hand we had a strong uniting force in the form of "TV" on the other hand when we walked away from it we were disconnected. When kids went outside, they were outside and disconnected from Technology. Other than social changes it might as well have been the 1950s With the late 90s and 2000 the Internet when main stream but it was still developing. KZbin when it came out was basically people in their basement doing silly things. Desktops like the TV were not with you went you went outside. However, its interesting since this created more freedom for "art" (such as early KZbin) and room for more "outlandish" and "politically incorrect" humor. NewGrounds.com and early Robochicken remind me of this era. Smart phones i think had the greatest effect on society since now you were never "disconnected" from tech. Now wherever you went it went with you. The uniting force of TV was gone but so was the "genuine" experience of being unplugged from the Matrix. Now people are in their little corners of the world in an increasingly atomized society.

I remember as a kid after playing outside all day we would go to my house and play this game 4 players and pass the controller if you lost. We would nag at each other for screen cheating and odd job was banned. This game brought all my friends in my neighborhood together for good times. Goldeneye holds a special place in my childhood.

Yep. Those were the days with the homies.

We did the same things!!! We had a special rule about Oddjob, anyone who picked Oddjob was free to be ganged up on by all other players. Screen cheating resulted in getting beat by anyone who wasn't playing at that time and lowest kills per round resulted in passing the controller off for a new player to start playing

I think it is absolutely adorable how easy you make the game look when in reality the last 6 levels are a nightmare

Everything about this game was amazing. Like shooters nowadays can't even begin to stack up to this. I remember having everything unlocked and I'd still play through the levels and loved every minute of it.

Movement using the c pad and joy stick in this game made it one of the best fps for moving around

Played around Christmas for the first time in 27 years. Me and four buddies all 45 now. We agreed on Rockets in the Temple. I went straight to the Body Armor and got my rocket. Unbelievable how my memory just kicked right in 😂

Looking back at this now, I just have one question: why in the world were there so many soldiers taking a dump at the same time 7:00

Control was the level that I could not beat. Took me a million tries. Then I watch how you beat it and now my 10 year old self feels stupid. lol

Man I got this game November 7, 1997 from my cousins. I had to have kidney surgery and I was in 7th grade. Wasn't able to go back to school after the surgery until the following February. I did nothing but play this game lol😂. I had a homeschooling teacher come for like an hour to bring class work and the rest of the time it was this. Hard-core nostalgia here.

I love how you unnecessarily hurt your teammates, it's something that I couldn't avoid when I had this game either haha

By March '98 it had become my favourite game on the system because I discovered I could squash people and cars with the tank in the Streets level.

Something very satisfying about the way the bullets hit and the way you aim upclose with the slight auto aim. Brings back alot of memories. You play almost the same exact way I played it when I was a kid. I used to play the sh*t out of it.

Control on 00 agent was so hard I could never beat it. One night drinking and drunk underage at my friends house I finally pulled it off
@DetroitTyler Жыл бұрын
I think one thing that stood out about this game was the baked in inaccuracy of gun shots, you could aim but pretty much anything that wasn't a sniper rifle wasn't an exact bullseye like modern shooter games. Added a semi random element to shootouts which made it a fun and chaotic 4 player experience.

Wish I was a little older when this came came out. I still played it but I feel like I missed out on the hype around this game. It definitely set a standard for fps games.
