Desolation Row off of Dylan's Hwy 64 Revisited is likely my favorite song of all time. I've always been mystified by the guitar that dances it's way through the song. Add some of his best lyrics and a wonderfully long song that you can get lost in and it makes for a perfect song. I just heard this version and I can't believe how much I love it. Jerry's guitar is different but equally wonderful. I'm in heaven .

Yeah brian desolation row is one of my top favorite dylan songs along with sad eyed lady of the lowlands and sooner or later one of must know off of blond on blond album. I saw dylan at the cleveland music hall on november 12, 1965 and he did desolation row it was his first electric tour and I was 14 years old. I met dylan in cleveland on july 17, 1991 he was walking by himself down at lake erie. I looked up and he was walking toward me. He stopped and shook my hand. Stay safe and healthy.

I'm a Dylan fan all the way. I listened to the Dead pretty close til like 1976. This is a really nice version of a tune that is simultaneously profound, and easy to sound pretentious on. The whole band is right on asusual, and Bob and Jerry are really sparkling... this is a very strong version of an important song.

Wow 100 shows That's alot. I have been to 35 dylan shows since 1965. I met dylan on july 17,1991. He was very nice to me. I saw the dead with dylan at the Akron rubber bowl. Stay healthy and safe.

Bobby's singing so powerful. Jerry's playing so beautiful. Absofuckinglutely nothing like a GD concert. I'm so much luckier than Brad Pitt, K Karsashithead or any wealthy Hollywood plastic robotic media mannequin (a world I grew up around) for having been there with these guys for hundreds of shows over 35 years. Brent was 1 month younger than me, and here we see him shortly before his passing. After he died, I realized I was lucky I never got to play keyboards with them because something happened to everyone in that seat...even ending with Vince. If you weren't part of the scene into these guys, you have not experienced the magnitude of synchronicity hardly imaginable by outsiders. I always thought the Dead were like a lens or prism for human connections. I could write about dozens of strange "coincidences" of meeting people in far flung places "coincidentally" who I had met earlier in my life in totally unrelated circumstances. People 20 years apart who I didn't even know except for 2 crossings. Crazy stuff. It's what happens out on Desolation Row.

Very nicely said deadtimber. As a major league Dylan fan, I think that the dead do the best covers of his work. With only a few notable exceptions, the only covers I listen to.
@HoyaSaxaSD Жыл бұрын
@@jokerman6015 what’s so great about Bob (well, one of a million things) is that he fulfills all the “cover” desires for changing things up, because he’s basically “covered” many of his songs by playing them completely differently in different concerts and at different stages of his life. To take just one example, Hard Rain album and No Direction Home versions are almost completely different songs compared to the Rolling Thunder version. One outside cover I particularly appreciate (besides this one) is Jerry’s 1995 performance of Visions of Johanna available on KZbin. Take care. Cool screen name. (Edit: wow, didn’t realize this was a 6 yr old thread. Hope you are still well and enjoying Dylan.)

@track2009saratoga That same thought occurred to me years ago but it quickly became apparent to me that Mr Dylan would never allow anyone to think he had messed up, or had forgotten a lyric. One facet of the genius that is Bob Dylan is his ability to instantly "rewrite" and substitute a new, meaningful, coherent, perfectly synchronized lyric, phrase or line so seamlessly you'd think it was original, rehearsed and "old hat". He never ceases to amaze :-)
