Jerry was some kind of a supernatural being - an angel, or a demigod, or maybe Santa Claus. Definitely not an ordinary human being.

Pretty sure I was here too. Lived nearby those days. But actually they never let anyone camp at Shoreline. I watched that place go up. Bill Graham built it. I used to bike down the path by the water and imagine how it would be filled with people and music someday.

It's kind of funny how you're in jr. highschool then into senior highschool people (teenagers) listened to more aggressive music (hard rock/metal),then you slowly move into being a Grateful Dead fan.

well i grew up in a dead family and was exposed to it at a very early age, around 6 or 7 is the earliest i remember hearing the dead and being able to identify it as the grateful dead. i remember my sister listening to bertha and a bunch of other dead songs but i liked her pink floyd the wall album better and grew up into alternative rock scene but now that im older (well in my 30s) i really appreciate the dead and it brings back a lot of great memories. yesterday i saw some kid around 12 or 13 head banging to metallica and thought to myself "yeah kid if you think hemmet is shredding wait till you discover garcia!"

I remember. It gives me chills too. Jerry was a great interpreter of poetry into song. He couldn't really sing for shit, and his guitar playing was not the best, but he was like any other artist; never reaching perfection, but amazing the hell out of everyone who witnesses their works. Thanks for posting this.

But does he WRECK the song? Is a song ruined if someone says the "wrong lyrics"? And what even does that mean? Wrong lyrics? It's their songs that they perform live never playing the same song twice the same way, musically so why would they HAVE to sing a song with the same lyrics everytime? It's their song they can do what they want with it. I don't think you get it, man.

this is a little 'choppy' for my taste in 'The Wheel' It isa beautifully written song and my personal taste leans towards versions that are a bit more "lilting" and have a bit of a Comes A Time feel to it. Just my opinion. Along personal lines as well-Brent starts to sing over the top of Jerry in the late 80's. Singing louder than Jerry on Garcia/Grisman is inexcusable. Speedballin' will do that to a guy though. Too bad soundboard could'nt tone him dwn. Not a h8tr...he's awsme till 'mid88 Ya!

Eghh, NAHhhhh. This is what the Grateful Dead sounded like at this point in space and time in the mid 80s. I love experience this band in all their iterations for a multitude of reasons I’m not about to waste my time explaining now. So I hope since 6 years you’ve learned to ‘Deal’ with it all as it comes and we go, or just keep listening to the same shows that have the same sound as whatever you consider their best. Because those videos are out there too. Brent was the shit, he did his time. Like Pig, like Keith, like all of them to even Jeff now with D&C and whoever Phil uses. But I view these little time capsules for just that, the ability to have gratefully created audio-visual “Save Points” in the band’s history
