Still remembered when Seita gave the last meal to Setsuko, and Setsuko called him and said; "Seita, thank you". Remembering it make me very, very sad right now...

Hay Animators out there! A thing I just noticed is the use of anticipation in this animation. how many times the characters stops to think before doing an action. It makes you pay mor atention to the characters emotions and actions. something we could learn from and should utilize more.

While this film makes me sad, Seito is an idiot. He could have went to his aunt and Setsuko's life would've been saved. Some people don't see this, but pride is another lesson taught in this sad story. Don't let it get the best of you.

h3aveNsHaZe what a nonsense! she was not feeding them enough she was yelling at Setsuka when she cried out of pain at nights! Setsuka would die even there but at least she lived happily before her death!

It's not exactly nonsense. The director even said that the central theme wasn't on anti-war, but it's isolation from society. Seita isolated himself and his sister from everyone in the community, effectively casting them to "double suicide". It's very tragic but Seita's also a kid whose pride got the best of him. This movie is actually based on a true story, but the true story is that the real Seita got to live (while the real Setsuko actually died from malnutrition); as a result, he wrote Grave of the Fireflies as an apology to her because he's the cause of her malnutrition and subsequent death considering that he failed to eat his pride up and return to the aunt and apologize. I don't blame Seita at all though; he was also just another innocent kid who also got the worst the war had to offer... he was expecting his father to return and somewhat gather back the life him and his family had before the war. Which was probably also why he was trying to stick it out with Setsuko in the abandoned shelter.

she is just a kid he could have endured living like that to save her maybe until she is older or up till the war ends I dont blame him but it's just sad thinking about them. this is the reality everyday someone is in their position i just don't like thinking that the reason for this is pride.

Remember he is a 14yo. At that age I tried running away from home for dumber reasons. It's true that he at least should return to the aunty but I wouldn't blame him not to. It's Japanese culture not to trouble others for own sake, something outsiders wouldn't understand much, not to their level.

It'd be pretty difficult to find a job in a middle of a war, when he's trying his best to keep his sister and himself alive.
@jivajivit65029 жыл бұрын
That comment was a little insensitive don't think? Where exactly would you find a job when the factories and shops are bombed?
@patthonsirilim57396 жыл бұрын
dude it was 1945 huge capet/fire bombing from the allied forces naval blockade any significant infrastructure was pretty much leveled any resource and imports are grind to halt any remaining resources such as food were prioritise to the military which was also starving to death millions back then were starving there were no longer any sort of economy left to speak of food was money guns were powere a disband 14 year old boy with a 4 year old girl is unfortunately the last people to get anything to eat and are mostly the first to die the movie even showed wounded people that would have survive are left to die in an open pit there were just not enough of anything to go around
