Mud, mud, and more mud. Things got a bit messy during the latest Gravel Ride of the Week! In this edition we travelled to Lewisburg, PA for unPAved of the Susquehanna River Valley. After this seven-hour ride, I required nearly seven hours to wash my bike. That ought to be a clear indication that I pushed both bike and body to the extreme! Persevering through these challenging conditions was, however, totally worth it and the incredible autumn scenes in the Pennsylvania mountains made for some breathtaking scenery. This ride called for some extra grit, but in the end, hundreds of riders stuck it out to see through an epic day on the bike. Check out the video to see how it all unfolded!

We ride here every year a half year with fenders and it is not a shame 😁. Especially on leasure gravel events I wonder why there are so few people riding with fenders in wet and dirty conditions. I know its not so cool and the bike does not look so cool eather but I ride here (northern Germany) with full fenders for a long period because I do not like my pants feeling like diapers soaked with mud 😛. Cool Event. Cool Video! Thanks for that.

I think that comes down to the route that you follow. I did the 95-mile route and it didn't contain too many technical sections. I chatted with riders who completed the 125-mile route and they noted that the additional part of the course, known as "The Difference", had loads of rough sections. Based on that, I'd say that a wider tire is required for the full distance, while a narrower tire is just fine for the shorter distances.

Pretty scenery but, if you want to play in some Real mountains, go west young man (the Sierra Nevada range). You'll learn the true meaning of leg/lung burning climbs at 6000' to 9000' above sea level. KOM has a new significance and dominance factor if you can shread these climbs on or off-road. One small thing, throw in some single-track and add some spice to those gravel-rides (!); pure fire-road only so fun...
