In this video, JOM of the Gravel Cyclist crew visits Mike at DeSalvo frame building HQ in Ashland, Oregon, for an inside look at Mike's operation. Mike talks about building bikes, along with many other interesting insights into the cycling industry. A huge thank you to Mike for his time, as he was recovering from injury during the recording of this video.
Mike primarily builds in Titanium and Steel, and every bike including paint is bespoke to the customer.

I have bought two DeSalvo Ti touring/gravel bikes with Reynolds steel forks (gave one to my son) and one road bike. I chose Mike because he offered not only a great price but more importantly he worked with me to refine the design of my frames to provide EXCELLENT bicycles. I just bought an Open UP but after two test rides it is slower with 650b x 48 Rene Herse knobbies than my DeSalvo touring/gravel bike with fenders and Rene Herse 700 x 38c Rene Herse smoothies. For gravel I pull off the fenders and run 700 x 44c Challenge Gravel Grinder tires. More comparison testing as soon as the snow clears.

Mike is as real as it gets... great to work with, down to earth, amazing craftmanship. Check out some of his frames which are regularly features at events like the Chris King Open House, Enve Builders Round-Up, or on websites like The Radavist. This will give you a sense of what he does so well.

@@GravelCyclist they are in Denver Colorado, manufacturing carbon mountain bike frames. I know you like the gravel bikes, but thought it might be another good facility tour. I’ve really enjoyed your content that focuses on the manufacturing side of the industry. Thanks for the hard work!
