Had an issue with a 25A fuse blowing killing all power to the mower. Found a comment with this video that confirmed what I believed to be the issue. Mower did great until I engaged the blades then it would blow the fuse. Removed the PTO clutch to find the bearings were absolutely gone in it this throwing the PTO clutch violently whenever it was engaged using the red button and exposing wires at entry of the clutch. Apparently those wires were shorting against the clutch blowing the fuse. Thought that might help someone else. Good video. Don’t see many on this particular mower

Thanks SEF for the post, I was cutting when the mower blades just stop in the process. I though it might be a broken belt, but looking closely it had just come off the pulley.

The reason it wasn't engaging was because it was off the shaft, bolting it in is the clutches ground, so by it dangling there it didn't have a ground so it didn't click, once you put it back on the shaft it got its ground back, I have seen that more then once, check the tightness every month.

Make it mow, Number One. Engage! One thing you may want to try, start engaging the blades at low throttle, then throttle up. On most machines it causes wear and tear when you turn the blades on while the engine is at full throttle.. That said, I know nothing about Gravely mowers! Just going by what I heard from Brad over at Copper Creek Cuts.

If your engine dies when you engage your PTO,a 25 Amp fuse is blown, because your clutch has a cut wire grounded out, under the mower by clutch most of the time.

Also had that problem. Looked many places for information and finally came across this post. I thought that would be the issue but wanted to have some input on it before I took it off. Bearings were completely destroyed and most likely had thrown the clutch into a bind and removed just enough of the wire covering just where it goes into the body to expose the wires. Thanks for the input!

Put a digital volt meter on the switch and test continuity when you pull and push switch down or.... use jumper wire on the harness... if it kicks on then it’s the switch

You should have installed a KEY in the crank slot or you will have another failure. Also the belt needs to have flat side out at PTO. It was twisted in the video.

Why does no one ever read the instruction manual??? NEVER engage the PTO at full speed !!!! it's 1/4 - 1/2 speed depending on manufacturer. If nothing happens at all when you pull the PTO it's electronic, Most of the time the PTO switch or fuse. If the blades are slow or lack power, it's the belts/pulleys or the PTO clutch is burnt out. If it's burnt out and your mower is newer it's because of engaging the PTO at full speed. But I agree with you about taking things to the dealer all the time. In 9 or so years of mowing I have yet to take ANYTHING to the dealer. The stuff is so simple.

@@JWNLawnCare They tell me to never engage them at low throttle too because it wont leave a good cut which is true so it can go both ways.
@JWNLawnCare
@JWNLawnCare 5 жыл бұрын
@@DoctorRickSanchez Engaging your PTO and mowing are two separate activities. You kick on the blades at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle for max belt, clutch and engine life and then increase the throttle to full for mowing because yes on a lot of mowers lower RPMs won't leave as nice a cut. Saying that though Something2LookAt basically never runs his Scag Cheetah wide open though that's more because he does mainly mid size resi yards and doesn't really need that 35hp flinging grass up and over fences into the neighbour's place lol. And yes you do have to watch your engine speed when engaging your blades because no you don't want it too low otherwise you risk throwing your belt off as I've done before when I accidentally pulled the throttle all the way back instead of halfway
