First flawed analysis from palki of Wion, sne women choose to work in STEM fields most don't, promotion is given on experience, merit and commitment not on gender, race, etc. In th big bang theory Kaley Cuoco was the lead actress so she got 1 million bucks just like the lead male actors. We can't force little girls to get interested in science and maths. They tried it in Scandinavia it didn't work.

It is about having role model, environment and guidance anyone can do anything if these three things met. Women sometimes also are tough decision makers . Men in general are likely to pick jobs that are more risky(high risk high paying), jobs requiring long hours, overtime and which tend to be demanding, and men are more likely to pick jobs in STEM fields which are inherently high paying hence the skew.

It's seen in factories in China the most, that women tend to do repetitive work better, faster and without complain than their fellow men, that's why companies prefer to hire women, but I guess it also means they can deliberaly lower their wages and still get the job done and pull more money to the company, I think with men they respect them and their time more although they bring less.

You cannot downplay the fact that pregnancy causes women to lose out on more opportunities, along with bringing the stigma of a 'pregnant women being incapable'. And then you come under the same kind of people who would call out women who go for treatments like surrogacy or IVF to save her career.

Madam as an employer I can assure you if same work can be done by a women and men with same efficiency and I only need to pay women 77cents compared to a dollar, I will only hire women and no men. The simplistic view that you have provided is very crude, ask yourself the same question if you have 2 employees who can perform same task with same efficiency why the hell would you pay 1 more, you will hire 2 employees for 77 cents and save 23 for business expansion. As employers we always pay the less we can from our side to maximize profits. Its a business not a charity that anyone will pay men more. Second you said about women giving up her job for husband, most women who have a salary of lets say x, will only marry men with salary of at least 1.5x-2x. Why dont women marry the men who also makes x? I have had men and women leaving the company, unmarried women who make 25-30k marrying men making 1lac plus, she can choose to marry men earning the same as her 25-30k if she wants to be treated as equal. When you say you want to marry someone at a better position than yourself you are admitting to yourself that he is better than me, and the one who holds that authority will always be dominant. I have a friend who earns 1cr per year his wife earns around 30lacs. She wants to treated as an equal and doesnt want to leave job for the kids, my friend does not want kids to grow up with an aya(maid), she does not want live with inlaws when he suggested that they can take care of kids, he said if you dont want to leave job fine, I will leave job as you are also earning and I will take care of household work if you think household work is demeaning, I dont have any issues becoming a househusband. She immediately said men are supposed to be breadwinner its not a womens job. She said all those things about feminism, equality and freedom so she does not have to take care of household or take any responsibilities for inlaws which my friend agreed, but when it came to her taking responsibility for the family it suddenly became a man's job. .

My friend women will never admit what you want to say because it’s a fact… let them cry discrimination… they are shooting on their foot.. see examples of Korea, Japan, US where marriage rate is below replacement rate… women are much unhappy though earning equal or more than men… living alone with their cats… and childless… Feminism is designed to control women not to support them… but it will be too late before they realized this fact

The methodology of the pay gap measurement is wrong itself. You need to measure people working in the same field and they measured apples to oranges hereby combing all the incomes and coming to an outcome.

One variable ? You mean the whole biology of women ? Or the opportunities lost during pregnency, menopause, pandemic? There is a whole gamut of reasons this pay gap exists - same as the reasons behind higher rates of murder of women (80%), domestic violence, illetracy.

We have almost the same pay in the USA for the same work. Women actually get slightly more probably because employers want to be careful. This gender pay gap is a political tool. There may be areas of employment that have too low pay. It’s not based on gender, LGBT or race. It’s easy to sue if this occurs.

Just like everything women ever have to experience, is it so hard to ask not to be coerced at birth into failing at paying bills with a terrible job, is it so hard to ask not to be assaulted or harrassed out of work, and is it so hard for women to not be barred from ever getting jobs that the should have as they're the best options. @@lalalaoskys_nell4631 Which is great and those are true feminists but when you are talking about equality and the the whole country of men gets drafted, not because they choose to but because they have too and these "equality" people are more than happy for women to be excluded from that draft. It's not an attack of military women, it's a fact about non military feminists women who are against women being drafted while shouting about equality. And that's the true difference between men and women, women do what they want to do but men have to do what they are supposed to do if they like it or not.

Bruh you out of your mind? Military jobs are best suited for women when they are non combat. In the future, advanced exoskeletons, genetic modifications and cyber/long distance warfare will cause gradual increase in women's participation. Right now, the technology isn't there yet.

Now there's a man working there as the receptionist, now let's say the doc makes Rs. 3 lakhs per month, at the same time, let's say the male receptionist makes Rs 20k per month... ​@one direction forever 1) See, the stats shown in 0:40 is what I commented about, it's taken with salaries from different jobs, you are free to read the reports... 2) next about the hive reports, It's already a controversial one, it's like asking 10 kids what are their ambitions and thinking 100 million kids will also have the same ambitions in a proportionate way... 3) Next about the under-representation, If a woman likes to study gender studies, then let her... What is the use in forcing someone to change his/her/their major just for the sake of a high paying job and so folks would get better ratios... It's an individual choice... I can go on and give counterpoints to each and every single line she told... But it's not worth my time considering the fact that the gender pay gap was something that was debunked decades ago!! And she conveniently left out dangerous/hazardous jobs where women are under-represented... Also Ukrainian recently ordered MEN aged 18 - 60 to stay back and fight the war but women of all ages were allowed to leave. Why wasn't that considered "discrimination" against women? Why are women not accusing the Ukrainian government of patriarchy? I had this conversation with some of my female friends and some of them said, well, but women had to stay back and look after the children. Mmhh...really? So, when in war its okay for women to stay back and look after the children... but in other cases of life, its oppression for women to stay back and look after the child. I am a woman and I am soooooo tired of these double standards and the media always teaching us women to see ourselves as victims with these narratives. Men have problems too... "equality" shouldn't be centred only around one gender!

Here in india it's far more gap. Reasons are mostly the same. But here is one more variable than western country. For most woman in india in higher paying job there is no pressure to support family. That taken care by husband. So there is no drive.

@night flame It's not like anyone's stopping them. One of the possibile reasons why it's male dominated is because men usually choose to pursue their career in the STEM field (Which are generally high paying jobs). Gender equality in such a diverse society is a myth because there are too many variables attached to it. We can aim for equality of outcome but if you need 50% of everything to be divided between males and females, it's almost impossible.

When women don't earn they are treated as Second class gender and dumb, when work then discriminated and later simply put all blame on women as usual and cry about biology when everything is well planed against women. We are just tired of double standereds and paying prise of something natural. We already pay prise of pregnancy through our own health than now even by loosing opportunities, power and job after years of hard work where as men are rewarded for doing nothing. Why should women pay all prise for pregnancy and then men will cry about less population, feminism etc? Aim of equality is not to divide everything 50% rather to divide power, opportunity and respect to 50% and to do it it's not necessary that there should more be women I stem field but there should be equal number of women in decision making positions

Thank you Wion and Palki for this video. You see off late i was having the feeling that Wion is a different news agency, but this video proves that all news agencies are somewhat similar. Towards the end of the video some very disturbing facts were mentioned which should be worked upon and changed to give women better careers, but towards the start of this video it totally felt like a rant. There are multiple reasons as to why women face pay gap. Skillset, alma mater, experience, flexibility all come into it. Yes, i admit most women have to make a choice regarding work-family balance and this gives them a disadvantage but there are other factors to this as well. The jobs that you talked about are jobs where very few women decide to work in. Go to any engineering college in India and you will find an overwhelming majority of girls choosing CS and IT but very few choose Civil, Mech etc. The surveys taken are general salaries from various fields, well not all fields are considered same. A neurosurgeon will earn far more than a pediatrician even though they both fall in medical services. I am not denying the pay gap, but what i am saying is that this video truly did not cover things well. A break from working, a not so elusive degree, graduation from a modest college, work experience, frequently switching jobs and several other factors come into play and all of these happen to be personal choices. You cannot blame people for their personal choices irrespective of how you view it. Not trying to blame anyone here, but how many women decide to marry a man who earns less than them?? And how many women actually take part in politics?? Sports and entertainment are fields where popularity decides the pay, ask Ronda Rousey and Scarlett Johansson, they earn far more than most men in their industry. The fact about men saving more money and women having more debt that is just personal choice. This video truly felt like the wion team ran out of topics to talk about and simply searched the internet for the first 10 gender pay gap articles and made it into a video, or maybe it is an intentional act to divide the audience and gain some clout. Palki please dont take this as a rant, this is a proper criticism. No one is above criticism you as a journalist should know that.

First flawed analysis from palki of Wion, sne women choose to work in STEM fields most don't, promotion is given on experience, merit and commitment not on gender, race, etc. In th big bang theory Kaley Cuoco was the lead actress so she got 1 million bucks just like the lead male actors. I respectfully disagree with this article. All my life I have been hearing this same stuff and I used to believe the same. But in the 20yrs of my career, I have observed that most women tend to earn less simply because of their own academic, career and life choices. They pick up comfortable and not so risky fields be it in college or job. For example, nearly 80% of HR teams in most companies are women, but that being a support activity generally earns less than the main business activity of that company. When you are not willing to choose productive & risky fields, not willing to take up laborious & tedious tasks, not willing to do overtime, not willing to travel if need be.. you just can't keep complaining about the pay gap. Because most of this pay gap is directly proportional to the women's contributions and their choices.

For some people it's normal to wipe their ass with a paper for some people it's absolutely disgusting. Same goes with food habits, religions, language, relationships etc. Once someone has been conditioned to think in a certain way they really do need to be reminded that they have other options too and what their parents or peers tell them is not the only correct way. Our Palki has been compromised people lol. I respectfully disagree Palki. You are confusing life choices with social bias. Here is why- 1. Men work more hours than women. 2. Men are more likely to be in STEM which is high paying. 3. Women choose kids over career (right choice btw as kids prefer moms, mostly). 4. Men are expected to be the provider so they work harder while women looks after the family (equally important). 5. Men work more dangerous jobs (military, oil rigs, coal mines etc). 6. Women prefer jobs which give them a balance life while men are expected to sacrifice family time to provide better lifestyle to family. In my 8 years of working at different companies, I have never experience a pay gap for the same position at the org as now most of them pay by position band. Also, a real life example, I have my niece a choice between a car and Barbie house and she chose Barbie house. We cannot forcefully change nature of a child. We should empower women by given them right to do whatever they want not by forcing them to work more at jobs. Shaming women who prefer family over work is simply wrong. They are equally, if not more, important. I think you should make a video after analyzing the comment section. It will be interesting. Btw, you are my favourite news anchor!

Most house husbands do nothing at home just make the situation worst. Studies have shown that men who earn equal or more than there wife actually do comparatively more household work. While men who earn less or earn nothing are also less likely to do domestic work. Not just that they are also more likely to cheat. There are many more issues with it Moreover if she dumps u after few years. U will be helpless

Just taking the median salary of a country to justify a pay gap doesn’t make sense especially in countries like usa and uk. In general men are preferred if there’s more physical activity like delivery jobs, gas station employees, uber drivers, restaurants chefs, construction workers and the list goes on and on, it’s just that men are physically strong naturally than women, it’s what it is, you have to accept it. And same applies to sports. The more popular you are the more money you make. If there’s a match between Federer vs nadal and serena vs osaka. Most people would prefer to watch the men’s just because the level of sport is very high, you just can’t demand equal pay despite the revenue differences. And yeah there are equal pays in some professions like IT, Doctors etc. just don’t bring this topic for the sake of it.

Exactly, even in the IT sector,men perform way way better than women..In UK, they tried encouraging more women in IT but after many years,the ratio of women than men was still the same,women couldn't perform equally..infact they were way behind.. If you think its a myth, go check the payment difference of actors and actresses. In other professions, I don't think there is any unreasonable gap.

I can't speak for India but majority of countries in the west are free and equal. The difference in pay comes down to hours worked and time taken off and so on. The pay gap in the west is largely false.

Sorry but the statistics for this claim in the U.S.A. are purely based off life choices and not unequal pay. Your news people have a lack of understanding of statistics sorry. You guys normally do a great job though. Men are statistically more likely to enter the workforce with a higher-paying job that is dangerous. Women are statistically more likely to go to college spending more time goin into debt the first part of adulthood before generating themselves a higher income. This alone is enough to account for the claim however there are other smaller factors to support it. Its literally illegal to discriminate pay based off sex. People get sued for that.

I think this topic has been addressed many times, and shouldn't be discussed anymore. but still I will highlight few points - men are more likely to take risk at any jobs, and take less day off -men can work long hours and stay late as needed -men don't need lot of securities that women require -men can handle stress better than women due to testosterone hormone -women take lot of days off due to biological need and pregnancy -there are many more..............

Additionally, women are more likely than men to refuse to travel etc for the sake of their children. I once had a female colleague who got back from maternity leave only to be promoted immediately just to fill company's quota of female leadership. Men don't get such privilege regardless of what they do or go through. Corporates are not governments, they are for-profit so they are not stupid to pay someone more for the same work. Facts.. 100. Women earn less because they produce less sales in being productive. Women are at home more in their life, living off the income of men more in the life, it's a solid fact you feminist always ignore here and other city networks where women have many jobs that are not productive rather are a cushioned job that is for things that are more services than production. Let's say, Many women die due to pregnancy, many get paralyzed etc, depression is higher among women, more women are in low wage work. Here is where I disagree. I don't buy this gender pay gap at all and I am speaking this from experience. I work in Govt. Library where the majority of workers are women. We have the same job and get the same salary but us men have to work harder than many of our fellow women employee because the women are not strong enough to handle heavy thing. Many of the women employee will just sit and do the talking whereas us men have to do both heavy lifting and talking to the customer yet we always get the same salary. Men are always expected to do the hard work without any bonus salary. We need equal pay for equal work.

@@sew_gal7340 but that's not equality, equality means you do the dirty, heavy lifting, risky jobs also, what you are talkig about is additional pay without the risk. As people have already stated the gender pay gap has been debunked already. Equality means jobs like sewer maintenance, miner and construction would yave 50% men and 50% women, but right now more than 90% of construction workers are men. You don't see women complaining about that difference.

Women choose different types of jobs than men. They avoid high risk jobs that pay more and typically want the types of jobs that allow more flexible time.
