After Palki left, I sort of didn't bother to watch the new Gravitas Plus episodes and left it lying in my Watch Later playlist. Gave it a go and while it might take some time to get used to Priyanka as one of the new hosts, I must say that the content quality didn't disappoint as always. Guess I will keep watching this series!

I got one or two pieces from LV and Gucci, after getting them, their value kind of dropped in my eyes. Earlier I used to find them aspirational, but after having them I didn’t find anything change about me or feel more successful in any way. Plus they are not so pretty. I find the handicraft bags made in the villages of India more beautiful. Plus nobody repeats anything these days, if you get into the dangerous habit of wearing a new thing everyday, you’ll want to get a luxury product very frequently and I have seen such things happen to people. They get obsessed with them and can’t wear anything outside of luxury brands simply because they think that luxury products are the best and they can use the item forever.

I don't buy luxury products for the sake of wanting a designer name, but take shoes for example, I buy a quality shoe that costs at least 4 times more than a $ 30 - $ 40 shoe, but it lasts 8 to 10 times longer ! But you just have to remember that not all brands are that much better just because they cost more, so it is wise to choose carefully !

These brands are actually targetted not for the ultra rich but for upper middle class who are desperate to showoff and try to look rich...Those who are looking for quality and dont care about the brand value you can actually visit India and Bangladesh where all these luxury bags and clothing are made in white label manufacturing contract...you could save tons of dollars and get the premium quality from the similar manufacturers...the brands only do the design and marketing from europe...its all produced in Asian developing countries. Eg. If you spend some time you'll get a pretty good pure leather bag, shoe, belts, breifcase and jacket in Dharavi Leather Market, Mumbai ...the same leather is exported and used in several high end brands!

The other day I was looking for a simple duffel bag just to carry day-to-day personal and work things. I checked online and at dept. retail stores, and unfortunately the material and quality of the bags felt cheap, unreliable and pricey (between $75-$200)... I later stopped by at a local thrift shop and found a vast selection of great brands (Brooks, Swiss Gear, Adidas, etc) for the fraction of the cost ($10-25). There was even a Louis Vuitton handbag selling for $25 and shoppers didn't even bother to examine the bag. Unfortunately, Perceived Value (ie. Success, Social Status, etc) is what most people buy versus the Actual Value (ie. Functionality, Market demand/supplies, etc). Also, this reporting segment did not include the part on which Private Luxury brands destroy any unsold merchandise so they can keep up the exorbitant prices....

Luxury goods are meant for status and is a personal choice, they may fetch a good price as a vintage product later

Fallacy. Littering is also a personal choice until the legislature gets involved. Sexuality is a personal choice now, but it used to be regulated by law. Regardless of which side you take on that issue, the government used to have a say in what is now considered a personal choice. Society made that decision and society did not end as a result. So you can remove the "personal choice" status from just about anything as long as your government is functioning.

A luxury item that uses premium material and classic design can last for decades if well taken care of. Thus it may cost less over time because the user is not continually rebuying the same item. This is also a potential stock investment tip!

Doesn’t come with status if completely out of context. If you want to join the club or the status, then you must also have the private jet and so on. The Rolex alone, for instance, and struggling for the rent is just ridiculous and dumb. (Ok, Rolex is a good investment it seems, but you got the point.)
