The sad thing that few recognize about Dubois is that he IS consistent, just not in any way that you want to see. Consistently shows little to no effort, consistently frustrates his coaces and teammates, consistently "underperforms", consistently thinks the grass is greener elsewhere, consitently has GMs wondering if they can fix him, consistently has GMs give up that hope and consistently yields unfathomable returns in trade that no one understands. He might be the literal model for consistency...

They gave their lives for hockey and need to earn their money before age and injuries end their careers so I think the longer term contracts are fair

Jets and Jackets both traded players that didn't want to be there to destinations that they did not want to be in. PLD was a cancer in Columbus and The 'Peg. Seriously, we went from being a 9th place team last year just missing the playoffs again and again, to the best record in the NHL with a few youngsters from L.A. added to the roster. Couldn't be happier to abandon that stray on the side of the road.

I cannot believe what both Winnipeg and Columbus got for him. Columbus got a superstar sniper and a solid middle 6 center for a player most well known for being lazy and just not caring. Winnipeg got an entire line of quality middle 6 players. I don’t understand why his value is so high when he hasn’t even had a PPG season as a first and second line center

the damning part for PLD is the impression i had was he WANTED to go to LA. he got to go to a team he wanted to join, and he is STILL a malignant player. i was able to at least overlook him to some degree while the kings were doing well (while he was posting a -9 goal differential because he's a liability). i'm not so sure at this point that he isn't a large part of the issue from a mental standpoint, with the kings in a complete freefall. issue is that if they don't get rid of him pretty much NOW, they're almost certainly stuck with him for at least four years, or stuck with a buy-out cap hit for the next 16.

So when we found out that the Kings and Jets were in trade talks, we were worried. Until it was realized that it was PLD being traded. Not Hellebuyck. Then we were excited and realized right away that LA made a mistake.

I thought I would compare in this analysis, following last preseason, on point production by each of John Tavares (Leafs), Tim Stützle (Sens) and Pierre-Luc Dubois (Kings). Those respective centres, after 45, 43 and 44 games, have put up: - 34, 43 and 19 points that have included 12, 10 and 9 goals - plus-minuses of -2, -2, and -13 Tavares, Stützle and Dubois, following this season, have 1, 7 and 7 respective seasons, left on their contracts, with said contracts that carry per-season cap hits of US$11 million, US$8.35 million and US$8.5 million. While Tavares has struggled this month, having put up just 3 points (the only goal having come against the Ducks earlier this month) over 11 games and has put up a -2: - he is already in his 30s so may very well have begun showing signs of slowing down as a hockey player simply due to his age - Stützle has continued his average of nearly a point per game following last preseason so far this month, having put up 10 points (3 goals) over 11 games - Dubois has put up 5 points (3 goals) over 11 games he has so far played in January, making his significant dropoff in point production, considering his youth (his 25th birthday having come last June), perplexing to say the least

Very Well done Nathan totally agree on all points. As a very disappointed but a Huge Kings fan this is my take on the whole Kings issues. TMac should bench Houdini aka-PLD better yet healthy scratch because PLD is not getting the message at any cost He should have gotten the message when we WASTED $8.5Million a year for a whopping 8 years contract who is playing 3rd line center against other teams 3rd liners and should be lighting it up on a nightly bases no matter who his wingers! PLD has no speed no faceoff skills no physicality gets over taken out played and out hustled by much smaller players No heart no Fire no will empty body skating around and looks lost just about all the time! The real problem is the Kings GM Rob Blake who is Killing this Kings organization and salary cap who wasted $68 Million just on PLD the Biggest Bust in Kings history right before that He wasted $15Million on Cal Petersen another bust lets not forget he is paying Tod Mc $5Million a year the highest paid coach in NHL also we gave up top Prospects and players for PLD deal not to mention both Vilardi and Iaffalo have more points then PLD! The biggest no-brainer of the 2016 Draft was the Leafs taking Matthews at No. 1 overall. But after that, it's so juicy. Jets take Laine, who has struggled to score goals yet can be one of the most dominant goal-scorers when things are rolling. After that, the Jackets shock everyone by taking PLD over Puljujarvi, who becomes one of the most interesting career evaluation talking points in NHL history. The Oilers think everyone is dumb and they snag Puljujarvi 4th overall, only to watch him become less successful than PLD. Then, the Canucks draft Olli Juolevi with the 5th overall pick, who doesn't work out in Vancouver. And then at 6th overall, the Flames draft Matty Tkachuk, who became one of the NHL's top players and is no longer in Calgary. Beyond that, you have a lot of other famous names in the 1st Round of that draft class. Clayton Keller, Mikhail Sergachev, Charlie McAvoy, Jakob Chychrun, Tage Thompson, Trent Frederic. But the 5 picks after 1st overall (2nd to 6th) have so much intrigue attached to their names.

He wasn't that bad for us last year (Jets). But, it was a contract season. Now that he has a long-term contract he is nowhere to be seen! He has always been inconsistent and moody. I was not sorry to see him leave the Jets. I think Dubois will show flashes of talent/ability, thus scores some goals, setup some great plays, but you'll always have that inconsistency and moodiness from him for whatever reason.

The guy is a complete ass. He begged out of Columbus, giving no reason and making the City, the franchise and the coach all look bad. He went to Winnipeg and sulked, going so far as to destroy his trade value by saying he didn't want to sign an extension because he wanted to go to Montreal. He even went so far as to show up on draft day in Montreal thinking he was about to be traded there. He finally got his big contract (via his trade to the Kings), but continues to show no motivation. Now that he has his contract, there's only one thing left that needs to be done and that is his trade to Montreal. The Habs will set their rebuild back 20 years if they ever bring this joker in.

the first thing I noticed game 1 was how slow he is, and saw people commenting about how explosive his game is lol. I don't really understand the defenders. I don't think he's terrible, but he definitely wasnt worth villardi, iafallo, kupari, and a 2nd round pick. Villardi was injury prone, but he also has amazing hands and was super quick on the draw. So far PLD is just a slow lumbering roadblock that has made a few good passes and knows how to draw a penalty but can barely skate past a defender. Not impressed at all

The NTCs in the contract don't kick in until the 2028 season. There are teams out there that will take him as a cap dump, but LA will almost certainly be eating part of PLD's salary while he isn't playing for them. They'll also have to kick a draft pick or a player to the team taking PLD as well.

PLD is a total bust !!! He has no heart or drive ! Right now I’d do a 1 on 1 trade back to get Iafallo alone back for PLD. You need to remember we didn’t just give up Vilardi, Iafallo, and Kupari in this deal…. we also gave up Sean Durzi as well. We included the 2nd round draft pick we got for Durzi in the PLD trade. Durzi alone has more 27 points vs. PLD’s 19 !!! Then add 21 pts from Vilardi, 17 pts from Iafallo. All the main players given up by the Kings are doing better individually than PLD. If the team was winning and PLD was playing great “D” you would have a small argument… but he’s -13 +\- !!! Blake and Luc ignored all the knocks heard from previous teams about PLD…. They ignored them completely and hey were all dead on knocks! Luc and Blake and TM need to be fired and ownership needs to clean house !!!! Pitiful !!

PLD when he plays with intensity, is a really good player. Unfortunately the majority of the time, this is not the case. I also am a little unsure of how he got labelled as a 2-way C. He is not good defensively, takes stupid penalties and looks generally disconnected most of the time.

Jets fan here that saw and felt the frustration 1st hand that LA fans are having with this guy. Tortorella called out PLD aka Prima LA Donna 5 years ago and he showed what he's about. He's a slacker with no passion unless someone gives him a two-hander and wakes him up, and it's really too bad because he has the ability to be a Conn Smythe winner if he applied himself. I feel bad for Doughty and Danault and Kopitar having to rub shoulders with him. They should have a closed door meeting and read him the riot act because this team should be able to handle the Oilers and Nucks and VGK this year and there's still time.

Jets Fan: I was excited to get him in the trade. I was disapointed he would not come back and extend. I was happy for his term with L.A. and the amount and I was sure you would get the Dubois with all the power and talent a center could play with. This will sound like insanity to the hockey world, but I hope he gets all climatized to life in L.A. and settled in life and becomes that center who has a great career, into the hall of fame.

💯 I saw Bobby Ryan talk about this on a podcast. He was talking about how some guys are just fricken amazing in practice, can do unbelievable things with the puck, snipe it from anywhere… but if that guy doesn’t have “hockey smarts”, and isn’t able to figure out he systems the coach is implementing, or how to find holes or to get open, those highly talented guys can actually suck in NHL games. We see very skilled guys get drafted all the time and flop. Look at Drouin or Yakupov. Two guys that coasted through their childhoods and teenage years by being the most skilled guys. Then when they get to the NHL, they have to learn how to play the game properly, a team game. And they just can’t figure it out.
