I love the idea of a communal workforce that I learned of in El Anatsui's working method from Art 21. It is so amazing to me to have an artist employ other people. That is so beautiful. In this video, I see the lids that are included and that is a little different from some of the other pieces in that the sight of the parts brings up the idea of a jagged-ness to something that looks like fabric in a way.

Jon Keppel: I, too, saw that Art-21 video that you mentioned when on an art-themed rabbit-hole here on AdTube a couple/few weeks ago!

Saw his work at the Brooklyn Museum of Art on March 27th. It is truly wonderful to look at.

Anatsui's art operates on several levels -- from the assembly of the initial particles to the intentional draping. Throughout the process he is concerned with the transitions in color and reflectivity. He keeps the conceptual aspect in mind (he speaks of the "wall").

His work is beautiful, but this video needs English subtitles. It's hard to understand what he is saying.

nate Rodas: I, personally, had no trouble understanding him. He articulated his thoughts and explanations better than most of my fellow contemporary Americans for whom English is allegedly their first language.
