Why is everyone spinning like they are? I wonder if having more cars running on the track at the same time makes the conditions different enough that you don't spin? *shrug* Whatever the physics answer is, that was some great driving today. Looks like we're lining up some fun competitions when the time trials are done!

I can tell you this. When all 4 cars are racing, their overall behavior is better. My hunch is that 4 cars create a vibration thru the entire track, which tends to aid their stability. When the train is active, it also adds a vibration.

I'm sure builders and drivers will be studying the results to determiner whether a 180, 360, or 540 spin is the best way to go in the drift lane. (Then there's Crazy Canuck who elected not to spin, but that's only one data point for that strategy.)

Nah…it was the Hand Brake Test slide down the scrambler that will have to be fixed for the group stage…

If past tournaments are any indication, when all 4 drivers are racing down the course there aren't so many hard crashes into the retaining barrier on the drift.

Nice! Another great round of qualifying! The backwards thing always confuses me... is it a front/back balance, wheel alignment, wheel speed capability differential or other issue? Or is it just a sympyom of crashing the wall when drifting? I know my Baja Bison would run backwards but I put the back of the chassis in the front so it drove with the normal rear end facing foreward so I sorta expected it might... but anyone have a good answer?

It's how they crash into the wall when drifting.

Mine has weight forward bias but not much. It ended up backwards 🤷‍♂️

I was wondering the same thing. I know some builders put the weight balanced either to the front or to the back, depending on the type of track. I’ve seen many cars spin around on most of the open tracks, so it’s not just a Shavano Mountain phenomenon. It does get my brain working trying to figure out why it happens and how to counteract it without losing speed.

@ZAMAK.SpeedShop It's hard to appreciate how each car will actually perform on the track when you're not able to view all 3 runs, and it's only from lane 2. The racing will help form a more complete picture. Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the time trials is seeing how straight it tracks down the runway.

They're going down the track in reverse in preparation for The Scrambler! They think if they hit it in reverse, they'll come out of it straight(er) and maybe spin out less.

It’s the lighter weight of the cars that has these cars caught out. The limit was 45g’s and the drift prefers cars balanced at 50/50 weighing around 60-65g’s.
