I go to Byrd's every October for a 4x4 event and my boy and I always enjoy the fly in at that time but it appears the fly in is the week before our 4x4 event... bummer.

Wow! Incredible scenery! That new prop and spinner seem to be working great! Your videos helped so much in getting me through this pandemic. Sweet seeing these other planes too. Jealous of your life!

Seems strange seeing your plane amongst the green and lush! I was hoping you were going to say I'll be back for the stol comp, be really interesting to see all your hard work up against the bad boys - take it from me, only one way to get used to humidity - and that's being there! ;)

Seeing all that green in comparison to your normal area is so transformational and beautiful. Thank for taking us along.

There are many Many things I appreciate about living and aviating in Arizona but seeing Byrd’s, Gaston’s and the beautiful Arkansas scenery has me wondering if I can afford a summer home there. This video is an excellent one. Thank you!

Hey, I've been catching up on your videos.. What is your plane's manufacturer? It looks like it is clothe wings. If you don't have access to a hangar, how often would you say you'd have to replace the material? I'm just doing research on options. Thanks!
@GravityKnightFlying3 жыл бұрын
It was designed by RANS in Kansas. (S-7S). The wings are fabric yes... good question, fabric planes really prefer a hanger if possible. I really am not sure, it would depend on what elements it is subject too outside, how humid it is etc. And of course which fabric type, paint type and all that. I do think metal wings (fuselage) tend to do a lot better when left outside for extended periods. With that being said, a lot of planes that are mostly metal sometimes will have fabric covered tail feathers or fabric ailerons, like the DC-3 for example.. and many of those spent/spend a lot of time outside.

Thank you for your posting, I always look forward to seeing them. Is there any chance you can show us , (who are down under) , where you are flying. It would be great to see. You have such a diverse range of options, where you can head off to. Just a screenshot would be great. Thank you and I’m already looking forward to your next trip. Wiz from Tasmania.

Quick Question, What do you do for a day job? Looking through some of your older videos, you are very mechanically minded - just wondering if it is in the engine field? keep up the fantastic content!
@GravityKnightFlying3 жыл бұрын
thanks Farquad! I worked in IT, so not directly in the mechanical world, but I grew up around it as my dad is a machinist/welder etc, so I was taught some of what he knows over the years.. and then spent many years building, tuning, racing cars back before airplane. Thanks for the comment!! -Todd

The Badlands Traveler (killer name!) is the first plane to really catch my interest, after flying S-7's for the last 20+ years. Seems to go about equally slow (slower, I'd have to see it to believe it....) when needed, but much faster. Love that rear baggage door, we need something similar on our 7's.
@GravityKnightFlying3 жыл бұрын
I flew one of them that had an 0-320 and 150 wings with a sportsman. it would land pretty slow. This one in the video has a 360 and 170 wings plus stol kit. I did some sand bar hoping with him and it wouland noticeably slower than the 7. Thats what got me drooling. He had me by 5+ on the bottom and 5 or so on the top without any trouble. On 31's and big gear etc. Sweet machine....

Beautiful country when you're flying over it like a bird...Would love to follow the Arkansas River (just 15 miles south of Byrds) back to Colorado from 1000 ft... Here's a suggestion for you, 6 miles NW from the Boise City airport in the far west of the Oklahoma pan handle, you can clearly see on Google Earth, the vast deep ruts of the old Santa Fe Trail which are easy to track for a hundred miles...some interesting country from Trinidad on eastward out to there...just saying...cheers and thanks again for posting this great stuff.

Your videos really do a nice job of showcasing the Rans S7. I like the panaramic view from the cockpit, must make spotting rocks and such a bit easier than a side by side. I suppose the only down side, if one can really call it tbat, is the lack of folding wings that allow using an enclosed trailer instead of having to rent hanger space and be tied down to a particular airport, Probably not an issue for most pilots, but those of us on a more limited budget need every cost break we can get. I remain both envious and motivated to find a way to join the club. .
