Love the long needle nose pliers, mine from a teen was the Craftsman Pro 8 inch needle nose. I never thought much of added plastic handles until I met these as the 'bump' really helps register the tool correctly in your hand. I hate to tell you the better buy for screw retrieval is to get a pair of foot long stainless steel hemostats. I have been adding various hemostats to my tool kits ever since I got my first one in NEI College of Technology tool kit and they really are a godsend. I bet plenty of people here would love to see you do a shellac how to as well -- It's one of those things I think my father understood better than I do. It must be perfect for the more oily woods, too.

Those pliers came out nice. My Dad passed earlier this month on 6th May he was 93 but honestly it was kind of a shock he was fit as a fiddle right up until about 2 weeks before he died. He would walk into town 3 days a week to do grocery shopping but I think mainly he used that as an excuse to go to the snooker club😁. He quite playing years ago but he liked to meet up with all his buddies in there to have a couple of pints and a natter.

Great vid! A couple of bluing tips I've learned: 1. Do not use the same contaminated Q-tip or paper towel to dip into the bottle, it will react and weaken the left over fluid. 2. Heat up your tool nice and warm. Not to hot to handle, but very warm for a darker blue. 3. If there are blotches/ to avoid blotching, use steel wool to apply and scrub into the metal. Just rinse first with alcohol to remove oil. Scotch Bright might be better, I've never tried it. 4. Apply 2-3 times for an even color. 5. Heat the tool again when oiling to improve longevity.

John back in the mid 50s being an altar boy was an income opportunity. Serving in a Requiem Mass got you an honorarium of 3-5 bucks. I am guessing the priest got 20-25 bucks. Snagging a funeral gig was good money as minimum wage was $1 per hour. Now if the family was poor we would not accept it. You got out of school and most times you got to go to the meal back at the church after the funeral. Your wake example reminded me of this.

Nice job on those pliers! Can't say enough about oxpho-blue. We've been using it in the shop for a long time to touch up barrels, trigger guards, and small parts and it makes for a really tough finish that you can blend in with many an original finish. Have even used it to finish new factory bright muzzleloading barrels that customers didn't want the traditional brown or even a hot blue. Go figure.

At my age, so many are gone, some long gone. I come from a really small town so not many classmates, but quite a few of them are gone. Those are nice looking needle nose pliers. I have several pair of the short ones and one long nose that I have had for 40 years or more. They are a no name and are sloppy at the hinge. Still the most used. Sadly in the old days I would loan them to individuals who were not careful with them and they show it including the wobble. Between people abusing tools and others keeping them, I rarely loan out tools unless they are doubles or triples. There are some that I feel I have to loan tools to but are as careless as goobers, so they get cheap ratchets and sockets. They work but will not last long, but I can throw them away and pick up others from junk piles at sales.

Hey Scout, the only downside to collecting funeral cards is that you realise how many people you have known are gone. Kinda sad when the collection grows faster as you get older.😂 Great job on the blueing. I differentiate those pliers into “long nose” (Channellocks) and “needle nose” (Grey) and have my father’s needle nose pliers that I use but I won’t let anyone else touch them. I have found that once the needle nose pliers are twisted it’s almost impossible to get them right again, either the tips won’t align properly or the joint becomes loose. Cheers, Stuart 🇦🇺

Rust bluing is a much more permanent and durable finish. It’s how gun making used to blue guns before the hot bluing process came around. It’s a time consuming, because it a multi-step process, but the result look good. I rust blued an old Smith & Wesson revolver that I carry daily.

I have noticed recently that many persons do not know how to write an obit. For some people, an obit is the only time that the history of their life will be told. The obit should answer the question “What did this person do with their life?” I have seen two obits that did not contain anything about the persons work history. The work history should not be a resume but give an overview. For the person who did not work - what did they do with their time. My Aunt’s obit did not mention that at Christmas, she would paint a Christmas scene on here front room window. The obit did not mention that she was a wonderful cook who made great Holiday meals. There are some good example obits on the web, especially at larger funeral homes.

Also, do I need a Dake to tighten slightly loose ones? Thanks for all your hard work / information that I have enjoyed over the years. Best from UK.
@walterbordett2023 Жыл бұрын
One way to tighten loose pivot rivets is to strike the peened part of the rivet several times with a center punch. Do this carefully and sneak up on the amount of correction you need. IMHO the dings from the tightening are worth it to regain a good working tool. If I had a press I would find a way to use it.
