I just started my transition - I’m almost 70 and have been dying my hair for decades so it’s a bit scary, but I’m learning so much from all the beautiful women posting about their own experiences with transitioning. Thank you for sharing your styling tips, that’s extremely useful! You look lovely and I’m looking forward to seeing more about your hair journey over time.

What a lovely video! I love your hairstyle demos ☺️ I have been growing my natural/ grey out for 9 months. I originally had dark reddish brown hair but have had it highlighted blonde for several years. I’ve found that although I have very light greys around my temples and at the front, the back is very dark!! It’s been difficult going from light blonde to a much darker colour but I still love it and my husband adores it too 💗 I’m so looking forward to seeing your journey 😊

Hi Lisa, don't you find your grey pattern quite interesting and unexpected? For some reason, I expected my natural color to be more even and more salt and pepper but I have quite a bit of white framing my face. It's so great that you're liking your natural hair and that your husband is so supportive. That means everything on this journey! 🥰Let's keep doing this together.

I started the Grey process 2018 , I didn't want the "wait" period. So I bleach wash (bleach lift up tpo 10. - 20 vol. Developer - shampoo equaling same parts and Ardell drops red gold brass kicker a must ) I do this process every 6 - 7 Mos. To keep a light Silver Grey color ...... it safely got to a 10 level from a 4 level color in about 40 - 45 min , then used Wella Color Charm toner 050 add 20 % vol and the Ardell drops . The "Shea Moisture" brand line ( from Amazon or CVS Pharmacy) has kept my hair very healthy it is my essential must have shampoo/ conditioner & mask . So now every 6-7 Mos I do a 10 minute bleach wash. Now I am able to have a white silver gray hair without the wait. Edit: I also use "Fantasia heat protector" and leaves my hair shimmering! Get compliments and younger women friends are starting on the natural grey color journey too. This process if done in a salon it runs into the $hundreds , I buy little by little and once I have products on hand I just wait until I feel it needs to refresh & brighten up. Hope it'll help someone that is impatient for the waiting time.... God bless

Hi Ms Levi! Thx for sharing the process that you used to dye your hair a white/silver grey color. I'll bet it looks beautiful. 🥰 I wish I had your expertise and was brave like you are! I've toyed with having some color correction done to the front part of my hair but my hair dresser didn't feel overly confident in doing that process, so I'm in the "long game!" I definitely feel impatient some days.

Gurrrl look at you ! I love this, I’m not as grey in the front yet… but it is trending like yours as in back I have no greys. I have no idea what to expect. I really loved the braids, I am no longer doing permanent coloring as it is too damaging and was affecting my scalp so I do semi and it gives my greys a golden shade. Happy so far with that process as is my scalp. I am so proud of you xx

I'm on my Grey journey also. My hair is halfway down my back and on the curly side. I refuse to cut it even though it grows quickly. I stripped my color off what was grown below my grey/silver hair. Now it's a bit lighter than yours. If you want longer hair just let it grow bc it looks great the way your doing it. I love your side braid. Don't be self conscious it looks thick and beautiful. Most women don't realize a lighter color around the frame of a mature face looks more youthful.

Hi GG, thank you for sharing your experience with going grey. I'm with you, about wanting to have longer hair and didn't want to cut it in case I hated the cut. I don't think I have the will to cope with 3 colors of hair and a cut I'm not happy with. I also agree that very dark hair framing a mature face doesn't look youthful. This process takes patience and some days I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. That's when it helps to look back at photos and see that change is happening.
@gameswild1
@gameswild1 2 жыл бұрын
@@grayexpectations5686 My only advice if you really hate the multi colored hair (which I find you're pulling off fine ) is to go to sallys hair supply or any hair supply or online. and get a permanent hair color stripper . I did that bc I use to dye a medium brown in back and dyed the front a light blonde. It made my back part a light blonde and of coarse my aprox. 6 to 8 inches of new growth grey blends much better now. Plus stripping the blonde revealed more grey. You can use it all over it won't change your grey. I use to be a hair dresser years ago and my daughter is one now. Happy greying !!

This video is beautifully done and your a beautiful woman either way! I think you hit every single feeling I have while trying to decide. I also talked it over with my husband and my sons and they just didn't seem to think it was a big deal either way! lol Men! lol My worry is I'm a late in life mom and I do look considerably younger than my friends. My children are the age of their grandchildren! I am the only one of us who is considering going grey and I am the youngest of my group. So.... am I going to get duff from them is my concern. lol And so many people comment how I dont look my age, will the grey stop those comments? My grey is the beautiful white like yours. All my female lineage have snow white hair. Thank you for doing this video!

Hi Krista, thank you so much for your lovely comments and for sharing your concerns about going gray. I relate so much to you because I was and older Mom too. I'll be very honest and say that sometimes it's hard and I still have days when I feel a bit wobbly with my decision. I know I can always dye my hair again but if I do it on impulse, I'm also pretty sure that I will immediately regret it. There are so many layers to the decision of going natural and accepting this drastic change. Going gray is different for men because our society looks at gray haired men much differently than gray haired women. It's still really great that your husband and your sons are supportive of the idea, because not everyone has that support! 🥰Mulling over the concerns and fears that you have about being a gray haired woman in our society is all part of the process. This may not be the right time for you, YET! But when and if you do decide to stop dyeing your hair, you will still be beautiful. You will still get compliments on how you look but maybe for a different reason, because your rockin' your gray hair!🔥💃

Your hair is so gorgeous. I’m on the same path…it’s been 3months since I stopped colouring… My hair pattern is not as good as yours, it’s more grey… but I’m planning to stick on ! Loved the styles you showed….sadly my hair is rather thin and wispy…but want to give a try with those styles.. Thanks so much…your journey is very inspirational ! Thanks

Hi Lek! Sorry to be so late in responding to your lovely message. I'm glad you enjoyed the styles that I'm doing and feel inspired by my journey. I feel inspired knowing that you too are on this journey. It's so interesting that everyone's gray pattern is different. I was a bit self conscious about the white that I have at the front, but I like it more and more. You may like yours more as it grows out. It does take some getting used to after so many years of dying my hair. You're doing great at 3 months in!

Your hair is amazing! I'm 63 soon & the hairdresser said my hair is about 65 percent grey now & I've been thinking hard about whether to let it grow out or to keep getting it coloured. It's such a scary thought that i feel like I'm losing my youth. I'm still bad that it's the 1st thing i notice on someone else & even my hubby is all grey with the remainder of his hair. My hairdresser who is about 10 yrs younger than me says she's growing hers out & that she's so excited to have grey hair. I didn't believe it! Am I vain? That's what i think other people must think of me. But it's actually an age thing, not getting old & hanging on to my youth. I know it will happen one day & mentally gave myself a timeline of doing it at 70. I have fibromyalgia & am mostly bed ridden & can't really get out the door & have had to cancel my last 2 appts so the grey regrowth is a few inches now & it would actually be the perfect time to just leave it growing out which is easier for me & getting out of the house problem. Anyway thanx for your video & understanding this situation. Like i said your hair is very beautiful & thanx for your courage 🙏

So nice to hear from you Ida! 🤩 I completely relate to your feelings about not wanting to look old. Honestly, I wish I had done this years ago because in some ways, I think it's easier to accept gray hair when you still look youthful. I agree that going gray is associated with aging and for me, the adjustment to accepting my natural hair color was almost as much mental as physical. I thought about doing this for about a year before I actually took action and thinking about this now, allows you time to process your feelings. 70 might be the right time for you! I found the first few months quite hard because I didn't like the 3 colors of hair that I had going on. Some days are easier than others and with time, I question my decision less. I'm happy to support you when and if you're ready! Thank you for your message.

You are gorgeous! I love your attitude about being gray. Your hairstyles are so fun and she doesn’t matter. Have you seen the crazy hairstyles and colors these days?🤣 I just checked and I last died my hair blonde April 2022. It’s a slow journey and what’s amazing is no one notices I’m very silver! I’ve been dying my hair since I was 16 and I’m 56 now. I saw a pic of a woman who was gray and she was so gorgeous with silver hair I told myself I’m done dying my hair! I wanted silver hair. It’s only grown out about 4-5 inches in the last 9 months and I could cut my hair short, but instead I’m just cutting the length every couple months so there’s not so much blonde. What’s crazy is I could only see the front and assumed I was more silver all over but the back is brown! I’ve never had brown hair! I was always a dirty blonde or more red. From behind I now have an hombre look and everyone loves it. From the front when I’m in the sun you only see a blonde. It’s just kind of a crazy adventure. I live in Northern California and we have snow so wearing beanie caps and you never see the grow out. I’m so excited to be fully done and will enjoy the silver. Can’t wait to see you all grown out! God bless!

Not what i wanted, so i buzzed it off with clippers and left the top longer.....just what i wanted!!! Also, i was dying my hair so i would cover the greys. When i buzzed it off, it kinda made my mind up for me.....just let it be!!!!! Its salt and pepper on the sides now, on top is almost my natural colour plus a little grey growing in. in the last year before I quit coloring mine, my skin would get really red and irritated when I colored it.. so I decided to quit. September 2016 I had it cut off to about 2 inches. I let it grow. My profile picture shows what it looked like last year before I cut it all off again... It was the prettiest it has ever been in my life. It began thinning after I had a horrible accident and has not recovered, so I though a short cut would look better.. but I miss the long hair. The texture is different too.

Thank you so much for your comments. I love your pixie cut! It really suits you. So far, my gray shampoo seems to be keeping my gray hair bright and I haven't noticed any yellowing. I understand yellowing can be caused from a build up of hair products or heat damage from the sun or heated styling tools. I wonder why some people experience this more than others. It does seem that very light gray and white hair is more prone to yellowing.

@@beyond50skin That's very interesting that your Mom and others have told you that yellowing is genetic. I'm still new to this process and I haven't ruled out highlights/lowlights or coloring my hair in the future either. Thank you for the hair styling ideas. I stopped coloring about 2 months ago and loving it so far. I got tired of hiding my natural hair. My face looks younger now when I do not have the brassy blond framing my face. Most of us feel vulnerable going grey. I think it is because we have been convinced that grey=old=frail. But we are not frail and old, we are in our 30s, 40s, 50s. I blame hair products industry for implanting this horrible concept that women should cover their grey hair. Sorry, but f… that. I want to see myself as I am growing and then grow old:). Seeing the pattern in my hair is like getting a present every morning I look at myself in the mirror. I started caring for my skin and my body more. My solution to minimize the transition is to cool off my brassy tones with overtone silver color conditioner (not blue shampoo and conditioner). I did not want to cut my hair to avoid unnecessary stress. Giving up the “color” and length seemed too much. The downside of my experience is that I had to upgrade my wardrobe and makeup. I hope to finish my shopping spree with the lip liner tomorrow and then look at my bank account to stimulate my growing silver process 😂.

Hi Anna, we are in total alignment on our views about gray hair. 🥰It's so great that you are loving your hair since you started growing it out. I found it quite hard at first but I'm feeling stronger and more committed as time passes. Since I started letting my natural color come through, I've noticed more and more women doing the same and I love that! I agree that the hair dye industry has imposed a lot of negativity on women going gray and there is definitely a double standard regarding men going gray vs women. Hopefully we will change that over time as more and more strong, amazing women let their hair go natural. On the wardrobe front, I've noticed that my previous "go to colors" don't necessarily look great with my new hair color, so I'm paying more attention to that. Hopefully things will even out on the financial side but certainly it's win/win over time!

Why does the front of our hair go gray first?
@grayexpectations5686
@grayexpectations5686 Жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy, that's a great questions. Some ppl say it's because we notice the grays at our temples and front of our head first because they're easiest for us to see. Others say it's because those hairs are finer and more subject to stress from puling it back when grooming or little habits such as twirling the hair or resting your head in your hand. I'm sure there's a study out there somewhere!! Based on personal experience from ppl in my extended family, I would say our first grays were definitely at the temples. I'm go back and forth between embracing them and not!
