This video is of my July summit of one of the easiest 14ers in Colorado, Grays Peak, the 25th tallest peak in the US.
Grays Peak was the second Colorado 14er that I've completed so far (I summited Mt Elbert a few years back). Gray's Peak is rated as one of the easier 14ers in Colorado. Many also hike across the saddle to Torreys Peak to complete 2 14,000-foot peaks in one day.
I did this with my son and his scout troop as part of our high adventure trip in the summer of 2023. This video shows the terrain as well as some thoughts and suggestions for making this summit attempt.
Grays Peak is the tenth-highest summit of the Rocky Mountains of North America and the U.S. state of Colorado. The prominent 14,278-foot (4352 m) fourteener is the highest summit of the Front Range and the highest point on the Continental Divide and the Continental Divide Trail in North America. (There are higher summits, such as Mount Elbert, which are near, but not on, the Divide.) Grays Peak is located in Arapahoe National Forest, 3.9 miles (6.2 km) southeast by east of Loveland Pass on the Continental Divide between Clear Creek and Summit counties. The peak is the highest point in both counties.
Grays Peak is one of 53 fourteeners (mountains of over 14,000 feet (4,300 m) in elevation) in Colorado. Botanist Charles C. Parry made the first recorded ascent of the summit in 1861 and named the peak in honor of his botanist colleague Asa Gray. Gray did not see (and climb) the peak until 1872, eleven years later. Grays Peak is commonly mentioned in conjunction with adjacent Torreys Peak.
Mt Elbert - • Is Climbing Mount Elbe...
We also completed a 30-mile loop in the Lost Creek Wilderness, so look for that video as well...

Grays Peak was my second 14er, the first being Torreys on the same hike. I think I was still in high school when I did them.

The mountain goats are pretty docile, they have no reason to fight humans and will only fight other animals if really threatened with young or in food scarcity. The latter being rare, since they eat basically any grasses or shrubs. Still a good idea to keep distance and let them be wild. I've heard they are delicious when slow cooked and shredded like pulled pork.

They look trained to expect food from hikers. At least that was my instinct.

@@AndyParrishOutdoors Unfortunately I suspect you are correct. Good message in the video to remind people to avoid the temptation to feed them. The back country isn't a petting zoo hahaha
