An absolutely smashing simulation. Thank you. I regret that at 60, I will not live to see the day when VR experiences and simulations beyond this will be available to immerse myself in. I long to plunge in to this world and become an Apollo astronaut. Each button accessible and functional. Each view out of the window and within it, viewable. The CM and the LEM fully immersive and functional VR experiences and the lunar surface there for the taking in exquisite detail. It still feels like a distant dream as it did 50 years ago....

It is truly astonishing just how much instrumentation they managed to pack in to such a small space.

Imagine the absurd levels of emotional stability you'd have to have to not just be surrounded by the complete vacuum of space but be confined in that tiny space as well.

I could never have been an astronaut during that era. No way I could deal with those small spaces aboard the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo spacecraft. I tip my hat to all those who had the "Right Stuff".

2 weeks in a Gemini on 7 mustve been hell...or 12 days on apollo 17

Skylab wouldve been the only thing I could handle an extended period of time in from the apollo era...Skylab was roomier than any station since, though ISS has more pressurized volume, the modules are cramped, while skylab was very open

So cool. That’s the closest I’ll experience the space in the interior of the CM in zero g. When you see one of those in real life in a museum they appear way too small, but they’re apparently bigger when all the internal volume is used (eg stretching out into the docking tunnel)

Just a silly question, what was the reference for the instrument for attitude of aircraft ( artificial Horizon ) ???????
@carabela1253 жыл бұрын
The reference was changed during different parts of the mission. During most of the trip it was referencing the Inertial Guidance System, so it would show the relative direction from the computed flight path. However, when orbiting the moon or reentering earth's atmosphere, it was showing the relation to the actual horizon. It was there at the request of the astronauts who were accustomed to flying with one.

What are those pipes near the hatch?
@carabela1253 жыл бұрын
If you are referring to the vertical black pipes near the side hatch, those are shock absorbing struts which support the astronauts couches.

@Alfred E. Nueman don't forget the special plastic bags when you go on a trip to the moon.
@spankyharland98453 жыл бұрын
actually they still go in plastic bags- on the ISS, they place a plastic bag on what looks like a milk jug, do their business in it and seal up the bag. when the jug gets full, they stow it and replace it with a new jug- as for urine, that stuff get recycled into drinking water....eeek !
