Good video! We liked the little bit of storytelling & explaining the stock for sale. YES, please! Let's talk sheep, lol. Our family is very excited about those sheep videos in the pipeline! We have a lot of catching up to do on videos, but you are now into our rotation for evening "tv time". You have my families viewership support, Russ. Keep going , buddy!

Sheep videos are coming. We got our sheep from a farm that left them out on pasture 24-7 only time they were messed with was to wean lambs. The weak sheep culled themselves out of the flock. Our sheep are tuff. Thanks for watching we have 135 videos

Really enjoyed the video. Thank you for your time. With regards to the cherry trees you cleared out of the field, I am trying to get as many of those out so the cows can’t get to them if the limbs break off. I have read that in the first few days after they come down that if a cow ingest as little as 10 to 20 leaves, it can die from cyanide poisoning. We have a lot of cherry trees here in the mountains of southwest Virginia. After a big rain and windstorm the cattle farmers go around their fields checking for downed cherry trees.

The cows look really good for being out and having to forage. They all seem content. It is important for you to let people know what you have for sale. It is very nice to see you advertise your own goods as opposed to commercials from big companies. Great video.

Hey Russ. I would be very interested in some sheep videos. What breed of sheep do you have? Do you have guardian dogs with your sheep? Thank you again for sharing.
@RussWilson
@RussWilson 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Randy, We are definitely going to do more sheep videos had a lot of requests for them. We have a commercial hair sheep. They are mostly katahdin based blood. Our sheep are great no worming or hoof trimming. Very low input for sheep. When we had 220 ewes we ran guard dogs. We had some issues with them. So now we run donkeys if we need a guard animal. We do not need one all the time. We are raising saddle donkeys so it's easy to put a couple jennets in with the sheep if needed. Thanks for watching!!

Thank you Russ for the information. I was looking to do goats, but started hearing the trouble in keeping them fenced in. I have a lot of wooded area near me so I figured either goats or sheep were the way to go. That is very interesting that you run donkeys with your sheep. It is great to see various options on how things are done. Thanks again!

Russ... of subject here. But I'm working towards spring an trying to figure out accurate paddock size. I am aware of animal units, but how do I figure out stock my county's carrying capacity?? Or do you have a different method to figuring paddock size. Thanks again an keep up great job
@RussWilson
@RussWilson 2 жыл бұрын
Do you have a grazing stick? It will give you a guess of how much dry matter you have. Carry capacity is figured out by how much your land will produce. 1 animal needs 9140 pounds of dry matter per year. When i first started I would get an idea of how much dry matter was in the field by using the grazing stick. Than I also know how many animal units we have. 100 animal units need 2500 pounds of dry matter. I think this going to be series of videos. Lots of folks need help with that. With experience you can just look at a field and know how much to give them. SOmetimes you get it right somethings you get wrong just adjust on the next move. Hope that helped If you don't have a grazing stick get ahold of me @ ancattle@gmail.com
@brettpayton6286
@brettpayton6286 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I have a grazing stick. I am running sheep here on 30A with 8 different pads. 10A is still getting cut as hay. But in regards to my pad size last year I dint have to do winter stock pile because my 40 ewes where leaving lots of forage behind. If you can picture knee high pasture an these sheep just got like roads that go through it. A lot of stuff is untouched. My guess is my pads are way to big. So that's why I'm trying to get a accurate or close to size. Thanks again

Russ, are you using the Insta360 camera to film this, or the GoPro?
@RussWilson
@RussWilson 2 жыл бұрын
Most of my videos were done on gopro max. The last 10-15 were done on Insta 360 one x2. I like the one x2 a lot better. I lot easier to edit less hardware needed. Only thing a don't like about the one x2 is wind noise in the audio. I will be fitting that with an external microphone. Thanks for watching!!

Good morning Russ. What are the average frame score and mature weight of the bulls you sell? It's hard to see the size of the cows in the videos.
@RussWilson
@RussWilson 2 жыл бұрын
I have a lot of cows that stand 46-48 inches at the hip. Average size is around 1000-1100 pounds. I will know more we are going to try and weight some of them this week. I still have a couple big ones 4-5 frame weight 1100-1250 however they are slotted as culls soon as the opportunity comes.

@@RussWilson thank you for the response. I'll keep you in mind the next time I'm in the market for a bull. It can be hard to find a mid to small frame bull in my area. I'm shooting for about a 3 frame cow. Getting there, slowly but surely. The bulk of my heard is 3 or 4 frame, with a few larger animals. Like yours, my larger cows are earmarked for culling. Just getting my numbers where they need to be, so I can afford to cull a bit harder.
