On question 2, I approached it by substituting y=3x into the original equation and got x=1, y=3. . i got the same answer (A) but want to double check that this is a reasonable approach!

I'm not sure what you mean when you talk about the original equation in this question. Did you mean x/6 = y/18? If you did, we can't substitute y = 3x into that equation because that's the equation we got the y = 3x from. If we do substitute y = 3x into x/6 = y/18, we'll get x/6 = 3x/18 which simplifies to x/6 = x/6 or x = x. From this, x can take any value because it equals itself. Instead, we can take the y = 3x we get from the original equation and substitute that into the expression given in quantity B to give (3x + 4)/9. That will give us something we can compare to the expression in quantity A, as Charles does in the video. I hope that helps, but please let me know if you have any other questions!

Q8. x-2/2-x => -1. x = -3. No need for the quadratic route, given 2 is an illegal value.

For question 1, instead of factoring I plugged in -2,-1,0,1, and 2 into x and got C as my answer. Did I happen to get the right answer by accident or would this also be a correct form of answering the questions? Thank you!

hi! can i clarify for Qn 2, is it assumed that x is a positive number/integer? because the answer might not hold true if x turns out to be less than negative 2 :) thank you for your videos they’ve been a great help

As Charles showed in the video, we can simplify Quantity A to x/3 + 2/3 and Quantity B to x/3 + 4/9. This means that we can take whatever x value we like, positive or negative, and put it into these expressions. The x/3 is in both Quantity A and Quantity B, so that will be the same across both quantities no matter which value of x we choose. We then add 2/3 in Quantity A and 4/9 in Quantity B. Since we're adding a greater number in Quantity A, Quantity A will be greater than Quantity B. This means it doesn't matter what value x takes, Quantity A will always be greater than Quantity B. I hope that helps!

for question 3, what was the final answer?
@GRENinjaTutoring2 ай бұрын
Since there are times when quantity A is greater than quantity B and times when quantity B is greater than quantity A, the answer to this question is (D). I hope that helps!

Is the answer to No 4 really B?

Please in the last question, I cross multiplied the main equation and arrived at 3q=p. I substituted it into the alternative for Quantity A and I got 6. Hence my final choice was B. Please am I making a mistake somewhere?
@GRENinjaTutoring6 күн бұрын
Unfortunately, you must be making a mistake at some point when you cross multiply and simplify the equation, but I can't say where without seeing more of your working. If we take 5p/(2p-3q) = 7 and cross multiply, we'll get 5p = 14p - 21q which gives 21q = 9p or 7q = 3p. If we use this and substitute it into the expression in Quantity A, we can show it simplifies to 8, giving the same answer Charles found in the video. I hope that helps!
