Thanks for posting this so fast. GASM's time has long since come and gone, but this is still a sad event. It was my first real coaster!

This was replaced by Green Lantern: Stand Up To Your Fear!, which was relocated from Kentucky Kingdom where it was called Chang. Chang originally opened the same year Don Bluth and 20th Century Fox’s Anastasia came out. Anastasia is now an official Disney Princess.

I don't think this was the last ride. After the ride returned to the station, riders began chanting "One more time!", so they did it once again.

RIP scream machine. One of the best roller coaster ever made!

@Redyetz > Hey now...don't be hateful! GASM was a classic coaster...it broke records in it's prime, it has thrilled countless riders and it is(and always will be)respected by coaster enthusiasts as one of the best coasters ever. GASM may have been old, but it was thrilling people long before these new fancy coasters were even thought of.

I learned that there were three sister coasters. The Shockwave at great America, G A S M at great adventure, and Viper at Magic Mountain. All three were identical except the viper is slightly taller, faster, and a bit longer. Shockwave was built in 1988 and torn down in 2002 due to structural problems. G A S M was built in 1989 and torn down in 2010 for money for the Green Lantern ride. Viper was built in 1990 and is still alive and running. I really hope they keep it up. If they tear it down. All three will be history. In addition, it's an arrow dynamic built coaster. Arrow dynamic built coasters are slowly becoming rare as the company that made them went out of business in 2002. I hope the roller coaster industry comes to their senses and keeps them up. The arrow dynamic built coasters are the corkscrew style coasters, the hyper coasters, and the multi dimensional coasters. Magnum XL 200 at cedar point is a hyper coaster built by arrow dynamics. Viper obviously is a corkscrew style coaster from that company. X2 at magic mountain is a multi dimensional coaster from that company. Six flags decision to tear the G A S M was a poor one. Ah well, too late now.

Actually some Hyper Coasters by DH Morgan are mistaken for Arrow. Wild Thing at ValleyFair, Steel Force at Dorney Park, and Mamba at Worlds of Fun have often been mistaken for Arrow, but Wild Thing has probably the most because it's the only completely DH Morgan made coaster (Not Phantoms Revenge bc that is part Arrow) because it doesn't feature the Red Track with Gray supports

Brady Pelletier and rough coasters aren't necessarily bad.

This was the last full circuit roller coaster that wasn’t a hypercoaster to have the record for the tallest roller coaster in the world before Cedar Point’s Magnum XL-200 opened the month after this ride first opened.
@kikicallahan3662 Жыл бұрын
Also, Great Adventure didn’t hold the tallest full-circuit roller coaster title again until 2005, with the opening of Kingda Ka.

Shockwave was replaced by Supes and GASM was replaced by Lantern. Obviously GASM sat right next to Supes.

Bad choice getting rid of GASM, Green Lantern isn't that impressive...though it goes as fast as GASM which is 63 mph... It has 2 less inversions and is 19 feet shorter, not to mention the actual coaster isn't brand new. It was formerly known as Chang and it came from Kentucky. It's an ok ride but I expected something better esp for a new ride for SFGA.

@TheEpic22 no it was scraped. many coasters have been built with the same name. the scream machine had the same design and viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain was slightly modified version.
@woodcoasterdude14 жыл бұрын
god when this was finished there was three of the generally same design that were the arrow megacoaster triplets for six flags. the first was the Shockwave at Six Flags Great America (R.I.P. 1988-2002) the second was the Great America Scream Machine at Six Flags Great Adventure (R.I.P. 1989-2010) the last remaining is the Viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain.(1990-still operating).

@lirr56890 They need to put in a 400 foot plus roller coaster....not a Kingda Ka type deal but something like Millenium force but 400+ feet. That would be wicked!
