I've been amazed how bullet proof the A310AS wheels I bought from you in 2014 or 2015. And the hubs have been maintenance free for about 12,000 miles now. They still roll very fast.

this is why i love youtube. a person in one corner of the world shares information that absolutely obliterates so much of marketing jargon. m gonna upgrade my bearings now before i ever think of upgrading hubs. thank you!

amit - thanks for your comment. If you currently have cartridge bearings and there is nothing wrong with them, upgrading won't really improve anything. There is very very little performance difference between inexpensive and very expensive bearings.

I still have a set of Neuvation M28 aero wheels I bought from you back in about 2007. The wheels have held up wonderfully, rock solid, perfectly true, and still roll like a dream. I've never had to do anything to them. Thanks for another great video!

I have 2 sets of Neuvation M28 wheels with over 10 years of use on them. I still use them and they are true and as fast as any new wheels made today. I just put some Conti 5000’s with latex tubes and they still roll forever. Looking into a new set of Neugent wheels in the near future.

Difference between ceramic and steel bearings: ceramic bearings only show performance gains in applications over 20,000 rpm generally. Otherwise it’s extra cost and they wear out the races faster. Good luck trying 20k rpm on a bike haha! Fun presentation. Thanks!

I came across a diagram showing that cup and cone with oil is of least friction and hence I used such hubs of joytech for 2 years. The wheel use to free spin for 6 minutes but that doesn't amount to anything I was told when it comes to racing it on the road. Recently when Hambini pointed out that radial bearings would be better than angular cup and cone when it comes to taking the bike for max speed . I sourced cartridge bearing hubs. So basically cartridge bearings are faster than cup and cone even though it won't free spin for even a minute
@neugentcycling938
@neugentcycling938 Жыл бұрын
I would be cautious about any free spin test which rely heavily on the rim weight. High quality cup and cone hubs are fine but to get good ones they tend to be very expensive. Ball bears are incredibly low friction. Even ones that are not that good - if they are adjusted right. Stated another way, increasing performance by buying better bearings is not a good investment in almost all cases

@@neugentcycling938 could you plz expand on the adjustment. I think they simply plug in. Would be nice to have a video on it

One of the most bulletproof modern hubs available are the Miche hubs. Been running Miche Primato Syntesi for years and approx 60k miles combined on my 6 sets of wheels the oldest being about 6 years old and had 1 bearing replacement on that one, the newer sets are still on original bearings.

I have a mental block with boutique hubs CNCd from a block of aluminum made around the world and typically costing way more than hubs with forged shells made in Taiwan. Bicycle hub is as good as it doesn't looses bearings while spinning and doesn't breaks flanges. Typical RPMs in bicycle wheels are wimpy compared to manufacturing processes and other high RPM applications these bearings are made for. If they aren't bottom end level, are sealed and have decent mounting hardware (mean, exle, nuts or cones on inner side and fastening bolts/nuts on outer side) they will not slow down cyclist expect one is very high level athlete but most of you and definitely me aren't.

I’ll stick with Hope hubs. I’ve had 3 wheelsets build on them and would recommend highly.

It's my experience that there are a large number of quality hub makers - which was not true 20 years ago. The effect is that hubs are not as muich of a factor in wheels. They have to be good but most are. I worked with a Taiwanese company that sold hub parts to Mavic, Sram, and DT Swiss.

Have you machined your own hubs?
@neugentcycling938
@neugentcycling938 Жыл бұрын
In Taiwan, hub makers have hub shells forged first and then machined. It is possible to change the exterior shape of the hub using the same forging. In that sense I did have the hubs made to my design but I don't anymore because I find what the hub makers have is fine.
