Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist says Rod Marsh was one of the greatest wicketkeepers of all time and was also “one of the great blokes”.
Rod Marsh, who played 96 Tests for Australia, died on Friday after suffering a heart attack in Bundaberg last week.
Adam Gilchrist, also a legendary keeper of the game, said Marsh was a "man of steel".
Cricket Australia inducted Marsh into the Cricket Hall of Fame in 2005.
Originally from Perth, Marsh spent the last two decades of his life in Adelaide.
The iconic Australian is survived by his wife Ros and children Paul, Dan and Jamie.

A sad day. The man was a great ambassador of the sport, a renowned gent on the coaching circuit, with a great passion for the game. The Australians should be very proud of the legacy Rod has left behind, the man was a rare breed. RIP. Condolences from Pakistan

Speaking as a "Pom", I remember him during the 1970's. As a lower order batsman, he often proved a stumbling block for England. When Australia were in trouble, he would enable them to reach higher scores (in the same way that Alan Knott used to). Farewell Bacchus !!

OOOHHH Noooooo, Rest in Peace you absolute legend. I was just coming into my teens during the 80's World Series and the Benson and Hedges Cup (see old school tabaco companies could still advertise back then) and Rodney was 1 of my hero's. Having only mum in those days and us 3 kids, was good mum loved her cricket too. We would watch the 1 day/nighters they were our fav and watch Rodney, Allan Border, Kelper Wesells, David Jones not Boon lol just to name a couple of that era. Not only watch the Aussies but also the West Indies legends Joel Garner, Desmon Hanes, Malcom Marshel, Viv Richards, Clive Loyd the English and the Paki's Imran Khan and the Idians those were the days. Oh God i almost forgot the Kiwi's they were too but i cannot remember any of their players i wasn't a fan of the Kiwi's :) :).IMO that was Cricket at its very very best, i do not even follow it anymore is how much the game has changed over the years. Rodney i wish your family the very best at this sad sad time and i wish the best rest for you mate. You are and always will be a legend. I will never forget the night i watched you hit a 6 with a SS Jumbo bat and bloody broke the thing. Blade of the bat almost went as far as the ball. I will never forget it those moments as a kid watching you i will never forget thank you.

It was and is a tragedy the loss of Shane Warne. It has however great to see the Australian public show great respect and reverence towards him. Part of me feels that sadly the passing of Rodney Marsh has been somewhat not given enough attention and respect. Besides being a superb pair of hands behind the crease he was such a genuinely lovely man who acted with dignity and humour. I would have like to see Marsh's family (and maybe they have) also be offered a state funeral for this fine sportsman and gentlemen. Thank you to Gilchrist and others for such kind and heart felt words and stories about Rodney Marsh. He along with the other cricketers of that time were such a part of my generations lives. It was probably the Lilliees and Marches who inspire Shane Warne and others into becoming the high achievers of the game. Then they themselves have no doubt inspired youngsters today. RIP to both men who gave so much to the game.
