One of the members of a sewing group I belong to messaged Ailsa on Instagram to ask what pattern she used for those trousers. Ailsa kindly responded. The trouser pattern was self drafted using the Japanese Hakama as the base. It makes sense looking at it now. I hope this helps.

When we were watching, both of us thought they looked like a Hakama. Thank you for posting the response from Ailsa.❤ They were so amazing.

I think Alex outfit is the same pattern as the one she herself wore in week 2. In the comments last week someone identified this as the Small Museum Tate jumpsuit. I’ve since downloaded it and think they were spot on. Can’t wait to make it!

Re: cutting up embroidered tablecloths ... Very mixed feelings. We have a whole dresser full of embroidered tablecloths, napkins, etc. in our parents' attic. My Mom (mid 80s) can go through them and say Aunt X did this one and her Grandmother (our Great Grandmother) did that one. And it's wonderful. But they aren't used. At all. And the last thing we (all of us) would want to see happen is for them to be bundled off randomly to a charity shop or rag shop as the sad truth is that a lot of fabric goods get pretty poor treatment that route. A high proportion in the US end up in a land fill. So even though it seems very much wrong, we might be coming around to trying to do something more sewing/quilting to reuse them. But I still can't imagine cutting into them!!!

Burda 6183 cotton culottes she said she changed waist band slightly and looks like she lengthened them.

If you can’t bear to cut them up perhaps they could be made into quilts?

I may have missed some critical detail, but the Winslow Culottes by Helen's Closet looks like a good shout for Ailsa's trousers.

Kate, thanks for this. I do have to offer one correction, though: There is no such thing as a Foldline video that is too long!

Well done Kate for showing up when you felt so unwell. I hope you feel better soon. As for the sewing, I was so pleased to see Ailsa do so well, she thoroughly deserves it although I really liked Pasha's trousers too.

I bought a vintage 70s tablecloth for £1.50 in a charity shop and made a set of cushion covers, I think it's positive to give unused textiles a new lease of life.

Someone on Mumsnet recommended Butterick B6178 (in stock on Foldline) for Ailsa's trousers. They are culottes but easy enough to lengthen. If that's what she used I reckon she used view B for the front and view C for the back.

The Costermonger bag pattern from Merchant and Mills is worth mentioning for Alex's transformation challenge - not a match but similar function with the straps for handles or over the shoulders

Thanks for the video Kate. The Mood Aster pant is a palazzo style free pattern available, not as many pleats as the other patterns suggested which look more accurate though.

Unfortunately I cannot get the Sewing Bee in Canada, but I love following you with the patterns. I too have lovely linen and crocheted table clothes, that I have been saving for 30+ years. Never used as table clothes so I have decided they need to be used for other projects 🎉🎉. Same as “good china” it is time to start using it, or getting rid of it. 😁

Really enjoyed last night’s episode and this video! Ailsa’s trousers were my favourite of the night but I also loved the fabric Don used for his trousers. Sometimes the judges’ criteria for what did and didn’t “feel French Riveria” seemed a bit subjective to me! Hope you feel better soon.

What about the palazzo pants in "Sewing for the Soul" (for Ailsa's trousers)?
@ValleyView0074 ай бұрын
I thought Ailsa's pants were based on Vogue 1772. Wide legs, pleats in front and back, fitted waistband. But I see in the comments that someone has contacted her, and they are based on Hakama. Folkwear 151 is Hakama.
