Nice video , a pity the council demolished the bridge on birstal road and the bow string bridges or we could have seen trains running to what was Leicester Central ,mind you this line should have never closed in the first place.

Would have been a great sight.

Yes the line should have been closed. It was a white elephant line with next to no passengers. Other routes existed. We can't afford to keep lines open at vast expense just for the titillation of a few rail fans.

Re the reference to the brick signal box refuge at Rugby. I think what is meant is the one at Newton, just south of what is now the M6. I don't think the thing was ever built let alone commissioned. Just the Shawell down to Rugby Central was used.

Very amused by the pic of the guy with the sledge. Wonder if he went the way of the building. Most interesting series. Both parents were Leicester people and spoke a lot about the railway. Apparently a young lad used to greet the trains with a trolley shouting out " Chocleets, cigreets and tobaacoe". Nearest I can get to the voice!

Haha cheers Bob. That made me smile 👍🙂

Nice to see this station with the train running in and blasting out again. Strange to see the old station entrance on the bridge. Enjoyable to watch this, thank you.

Hi paul great informative video as i am from the area i lived in birstall from 1975 and use to hang around the station buildings as a teenager not appreciating its history. Have you looked at "demolition of the great central railway around leicester" lots of old photos to browse at.

@Psychic Spies ironically I didn't even twig until I was editing this video a few days later 😅. But I did suspect

the road where the old station entrance is, is Station Road. There was some talk of a museum at Leicester North, but it didn't proceed, also believe there was some talk to heading further towards Leicester (maybe Abbey Sidings) and be closer to the Space Centre, guessing the funding help wasn't available for the inevitable bridges over the ring road and Thurcaston Lane etc, but obviously now all the money is being directed to 'Bridging the Gap', hopefully in the next ten years we may be able to go all the way from Leicester North to Ruddington (outskirts of Nottingham)

👍 that would fantastic to have a line that long. That would be quite an attraction. Especially if it could be double track.

Been some interesting videos Paul. That coach is an HST buffet not really sure why they want that there
@WobblyRunner Жыл бұрын
Not sure if it's true, but someone told me the pull that up from Loughborough every week with supplies for the cafe. Can't the logistical reasoning in that though given that the station has a road to it.

@@WobblyRunner seems an odd choice of vehicle to use as it doesn't have buffers . I suppose it has a fridge but needs 415v 3 phase
