Did this trip April 2017. Would highly recommend this trip to anyone. Did it in 3 unrushed stages: Leonora to Tjukayirla, Tjukayirla to Warakurna, Warakurna to Yulara. Travelled in a near new Mitsubishi Pajero. Never had to use 4WD. Never had a problem with tyres. Let the tyres down to 22 psi and seemed to be no problem. Found the road to be generally good. Some sections down to 70km/hr for "comfortable" cruising but most could maintain 80- 90km/hr quite easily and still be "comfortable". No damage to vehicle. Kept a wide berth to trucks but only encountered about half a dozen for the whole trip. NT side of road definitely worst as road is not formed, only graded into the country side and mostly hard compacted (and corrugated) sand. Would not like to tackle this section in the wet as I suspect it would become like a big water course. This section has some big washouts so high clearance vehicle a must. Would not tackle this section of road in a 2WD. Lots of wandering animals, roos, horses, camels so would definitely recommend frontal protection for your vehicle (roo bar etc). In summing up I would highly recommend this trip as a trip everyone should do at least once in their lifetime.

Lived in Laverton for four years 1991-1995. Drove to Cosmo Newberry to repair a washing machine air conditioner and deliver a package to the local community. Loved the place I will return one day for a look

We did this trip in #KombiSplity on the Gunbarrell Tours in 1968 on our way to Canberra. See some record shots on Flickr search theses hashtags. Thanks for your video, it came up as I was checking one of mine through the Flinders... not as professional as yours or Andrew Of 4xoverland...

Did this trip on the way to Alice Springs in April 2017. It was a great trip and its nice to see video of some of the places I visited along the way. I would like to do it again and take more time to explore and take some side trips. The signage to some of the POIs is suffering from wear and tear and could use some refurbishment. The road condition on the WA side was very good, once I got to Docker River area that was a different story. Ha ha. The young lady at the Laverton visitors centre was very helpful and organised the required permits for the trip. My first night I camped at Tjukayirla Roadhouse but I arrived quite late in the evening. If you plan to camp here you need to arrive before 5pm as the roadhouse closes and I had to pay a $25 fee to get the staff to open the shop for me to book into the camp ground. If you arrive after 7pm the night bell will be turned off and you cant get in the camp ground.

Why do Tasmanian Aboriginals not have a Dreamtime belief? They separated 40,000 years ago or are they not related by DNA?

Unfortunately, they're sealing that road over the next 10 years.
@fredjohnston82519 жыл бұрын
+1978Prime In researching the Laverton council 2015 report, it appears it will only be about 45km out of 870km of the Western Australian section. I can't see it being significantly sealed for many years to come, if at all completed. I've driven this wonderful road 3 times in recent years and each time there were very few corrugations, but I was very lucky.
@Engineer97367 жыл бұрын
1978Prime I hope it won't be sealed. Outback Australia has to stay an adventure where very few people come. It would be a waste to turn it all into one big massive city.
@Disinf3ctant7 жыл бұрын
Its progress. They will inevitably seal every road. Thats why we're alive in such a great time. WA still feels like a frontier
