Fantastic climb and views 😃 when I see a road like that I wish I was 21 again, weight-wise and lungs-wise! Thanks for taking me up there without the pain 😆

Great video. Such epic scale and a breathtaking panorama from the summit. Pennines, Eden valley, Lake District... they were queuing up for your attention. Good point about the average gradient vs crux points. This one will definitely stay with you. Btw - in the notes there's a 'Featured Place' pointing to the Peak District National Park
@onemorecyclistАй бұрын
Thanks, Gordon. I'm not often speechless on a bike but this one did it! Quite the place to ride and definitely one of those routes not easily forgotten. I must have said something in the video or description to make the KZbin algorithm think this is in the Peak District! Never knew YT added notes to videos and clueless as to how to get rid/correct. Wonder if the poor folks of Hathersage will now get inundated with direction requests to the 'Great Dun Fell of Derbyshire'! 🙂

That's the best KZbin video of the climb of Great Dun Fell I've seen. (and I've seen a few!). Great that you captured most of the descent too. (Stunning vistas don't you think?) Still on my bucket list of climbs.

Great vid. Done this couple times but few years ago now. Seems 2 have changed bit. I remember having 2 go through a gate part way up and it was closed to cars. The fence at top certainly wasn't there. That descent is where my nervousness in descending came in and not really recovered. I actually go bit panicked at one point. Lovely climb and surface great but I've been up tougher I think.......but unlike you I definitely struggled up Hardknott 😂😂 Great views but think can equal if not beat it on a local MTB route to me.......apparently it's a classic in North Yorkshire.....The Scar House loop. I reckon you'd love it but it's a toughie !
@onemorecyclistАй бұрын
Thanks, Mark. I'll have a look at that loop. Not really explored North Yorkshire all that much on two wheels, yet. There's a lower gate which was open and more of a barrier-type gate towards the top, which was firmly closed and I had to walk round. Not sure what the deal is with the golf ball being closed and barb wire on that very last gate, closed for the season now, perhaps? Appreciate the comment as always. Happy cycling!

Fantastic effort!!! Cars aren't allowed up except for the ones working at the golf ball. I saw Ed Lavarack going up there, he flew up.....mind you he was 2nd in the national hill climb champs last year. He said it was a beast
@onemorecyclistАй бұрын
Thanks, Brian. Yes, I think the one way up and almost complete lack of traffic contributes to a very special and unique kind of atmosphere, considering it's an English road climb. I can only imagine the speeds the pros would go up there! 🙂

@@onemorecyclistEver thought of getting that drone that follows you from either in front or behind? It would maybe save your legs a bit!
@onemorecyclistАй бұрын
@@andrewwhitehead2002 occasionally I think it might be nice to have the option of a little follow-me thing but never been tempted enough to order one ... and I don't think they can adjust for height on something like a steep climb (might be wrong on that though). I actually have a Holystone drone and have used it a couple of times for videos (quite a while back) but found it a bit too faffy out on a ride! Might be something to try again in the future.

@onemorecyclistАй бұрын
Thanks, Paul. I had a faint inkling I'd been up there before when I got to the top, but decided I was just imagining it. It would have been on the Pennine way then, when I walked it in 1986 (not that I can remember it!).

@@onemorecyclist I've not done the Pennine Way nor cycled or walked up GDF. Hoping to do the Pennine way next year and was just researching the route before I saw your video. Will ride up GDF one day from Lancaster.

That climb, still pedalling and talking to camera, well done! Lovely views and a terrific downhill run. I guess it must get closed in snowy winters? What gearing were you using on the steepest section? Thanks for another entertaining video.👍
@onemorecyclistАй бұрын
Thanks, Colin. Yes I can't imagine much getting up there in Winter conditions. At the moment my Triban has a bit of a gravel set up, so GRX 46-30 on the front and an 11-40t on the back (if I'm remembering right). It's got a couple of lovely, spinney gears ... and they definitely got used! 🙂
