F15 simply the best.

I remember the Alconbury air shows 80's and early 90's. They had one of these do wheel stop to 40,000 feet in about a minute .. incredible. F111's and U2's taking off as the base stayed operational of course. At one they had a SR71 do a display! I seem to remember iced barrels of tins of beer being handed out. Cold war displays and PR and what a fantastic job the USAF did, I couldn't get enough of them! Spectacular. Before that as kids with no money at all, we used to set out on cycles with and set up to watch the trains on the ECML near the end of the runway and watch the planes as well. I remember base security taking an interest and we shouted back "We're watching the planes and the trains Mister". "OK boys" came the reply. We had never heard an American accent in real life. Seems like a different world now. Older guy reminiscing!

I'm with you buddy. Mildenhall USAF base, Suffolk in the early 80's. I saw so much that just blew my mind! Got a picture my dad took of the SR71 by holding his camera up above the crowd, it was just me and him that day. There's a 'none too happy' armed guard in it with an M16 as photo's weren't allowed, but we snuck away quickly! Basically the best things I saw as a child all happened on that day. A Vulcan bomber blowing my ears to shreds and stealing my heart forever, U2 taking off, the SR71, Panavia Tornado, Blue Angels, F14 Tomcats, F15 Eagles, F16 Falcons, Harriers dancing in the sky like physics didn't matter to them, and my first time seeing the Red Arrows. I got a picture of me standing in front of a C5 Galaxy with the front and back bays both open, clutching a rolled up poster of two F15's. I got mild sunstroke which the base staff cured with a pop out cardboard sun hat and a few cans of icy cold Fanta from a bathtub full of beers & ice. "You're alright son, keep him in the shade for a little while sir." Followed by "Don't tell your mother or she'll never let us come back." It was the best day. Just dad n' me. l'll never forget it.

Because of the horizontal stabilizers (And the way they turn) and thrust vectoring (And the fact that's it's Lockheed) the F-22 is the most maneuverable fighter in the air today. The F-15 has great turning as well, but the 22 just kills it.
@VisibilityFoggy5 жыл бұрын
It's a shame there is no video of the F-15 demonstrator they made with thrust vectoring. It obviously would not be stealthy, but there's a chance it could outmaneuver even the Raptor (and Flanker).

Can you imagine you're flying an effing fighter jet, cruising around feeling like a God, and then suddenly exploding from a missile launched from beyond your range? What a crazy experience that would be. If you survive the explosion and the missile shrapnel and can eject, you're rocketed away from your aircraft at bone breaking speeds before floating through the air in a parachute, and finally landing on the ground somewhere you've never been before. For some reason I kind of want to know what going through that series of events is like. What a trip.
@puirYorick2 жыл бұрын
It's a powerful jet warplane being flown by a highly trained pilot to these amazing parts of its flight envelope. There is ZERO NEED for any PA system rock soundtrack for the crowd OR a hype-man to drum up excitement in the audience like they're watching a new comedian or banjo player at the county fair or cheap travelling circus. I wish shows would just announce the flight at the start - which aircraft, home unit and crew names then let the performance BE the show. [end of rant]

Ehh, the F-15 will be with the ANG units for years to come, plus the USAF is even buying the new variant Boeing proposed (you only need stealth during certain scenarios in combat). They'll be around for a few more decades in some form or another. Post stall "supermaneuverability" is COMPLETELY useless in dog fights. We've been practicing with India (bless them) and their Su 30s with TVC and we've learned that you can counter any post-stall tactic by opening throttle and flying upward. By the time the post stall maneuver is recovered, the opposing jet can then turn its nose down and dive down with a complete high-ground advantage. Doing a cobra or any TVC maneuver turns you into a sitting duck... too much drag and loss of momentum. Otherwise, I love watching Russian fighters. But, the American/German X31 with TVC is even better to watch.
