Great Falls & Old Dominion Railroad and the W&OD Railway

In the early 1900's, big changes came to the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad. Entrepreneurs who had built the Great Falls & Old Dominion Railway took over the rail line from Alexandria to Bluemont and began a program of modernizing the line which the Southern Railway had neglected to do. But along with the new technology and amenities came new problems which kept getting in the way of success for the railroads.
