Me too. I hadn't heard of this before. My favorite toy was King Zor. I loved playing with him fighting small military vehicles and army men. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXiZc2Njar6CZ7M

What's amazing is that this one works better than mine did back then, lol. There's 3 things I always remember about this toy - the green skin, the loincloth, and that sound he makes. There is one other thing - my reaction. I had never seen one of these prior to finding it under the Christmas tree when I was only 3 or 4 (1962 or '63). I ran screaming into my parents bed, yelling "MOMMY, DADDY, SANTA LEFT A MONSTER UNDER THE TREE AND HE TRIED TO EAT ME!!!" They never let me live that down...and I think my dad played with it more than I ever did (which was probably why he bought it) ;)

I got this for Christmas when I was nine. I remember it as being fun for about a week. I was frustrated that I couldn't pick up objects across the room without following it around. It had a short cord. Also remember my two year old brother being terrified of it.

@knickd19792 жыл бұрын
just heard Howard Stern talking about this toy live (1/3/22) so I thought I'd check it out. Its amazing to see how such a basic (and dare I say crappy and boring) toy was such a big deal to kids back in the early 60s, so much so that Howard recalls the commercial in great detail and talks about how short the remote wire was that it prevented him from doing much. with a cord so short I would assume most kids just wanted to grab Garloo and handle him with their hands instead!

If it has plastic gears, a Teflon-based lubricant would be best. I wonder if any kids who had Garloo and home movie equipment made a movie about Garloo - expanding on the TV commercial of Garloo derailing an HO train.

When I was a kid I begged my parents, my grandparents aunts and uncles for this toy. They went nuts going all over New York looking for it. When they found it and gave it to me for Christmas it scared me so badly I wouldn't go near it for weeks!

I never got one of these and always wanted one. It was inspired, I think, by movies like The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad. I did get a King Zor, a robot dinosaur roughly this same size. I recently reacquired one of those. But The Great Garloo is much more rare.

Cord is way to short. The fun part would be to have him go to the other side of the room to pick up something and bring it back to you. The short cord would kinda ruin that.
