Krissy, It's a known fact that 'Bush Flies' are attracted to black / dark surfaces! Try using White Fly Nets (available on-line, eg 'Temu') & place a black patch on top of your hat. Might give you some relief from those Godamned flies.

@@nuggetella Already made my fortune and like my creature comforts too much to go that route, but I’m big on adventures, love the bush and have a desire to prospect and find some gold. Just for the experience. Still trying to come up with a workable plan that doesn’t involve a huge onetime investment to achieve that end.

Im guessing that you might even be home by now, but if you've got enough supplies you may still be there, with several ounces of gold in your collection. I hope with each weigh up your results keep improving. Unfortunately, even with a great place to hunt, your energy reserves will start to deplete and you will need a break from the flies and the digging. I can see you returning there sometime in the future. X marks the spot. And what a spot it is! Cheers and take care!

Hi Krissy & Clint, thought I would share some devices that might help relieve your fly onslaught. 1. ebay - 360 Degree Surround Bladeless neck fan; hands free. 2. ebay 2x Clip-on Cap Mini Solar Powered Fan. 3. Fruugo - Portable Solar fan, Solar Power Hat Clip on Mini Fan pocket clips. 4. Wildearth or Amazon - For Table: Shooaway Fly Fan Black. 5. ebay - Portable Fan for Safety Helmets or Hats with Strong Wind. Some of these might be of use in the outback conditions. Possibly keep your faces drier, therefore not attracting the flies. Keep you both cooler. On the table device may shoo some of the flies away from food items. Love the show. Best wishes Susan Hood.

Great find guys Here's the home made insect repellent recipe I forgot to send...thought you could try to spray on your flynets and rim of hats . Simmer 300ml water and 2 table spoons of cloves and 2 bay leaves till the water darkens. Let cool Then add 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Put in spray bottle. Fly,cockaroaches and bug's hate it.

fantastic, you may even make a profit from your trip out of that one patch you couldn't ask for anything better, I saw a speck in my mat as I was rolling it up today and thought yeehaa came home and I found that speck, the only speck in the mat unbelievable, the creek is nearly dry so maybe one more bit of sleushing for me and my tractor stopped today also so I will fix that tomorrow and see if the hole I dug in the creek is hoilding a few more thousands of litres of water, the buffalo went up to my grizzly/sleush and flung the metal ripple maker to one side, I thought that was a bit cheeky, all's good over here and apparently the helicopter is flying around next week to fire bomb a large area so I can detect, I hope I find an area like you have found, keep up the good work and have a good week.
