that must've been a real treat, its hard to find any passenger airline that still operates MD-11s
@DH111d5 жыл бұрын
I think all MD-11 service ended recently at least two or more years ago, including last one that KLM flew. Never got to fly on an MD-11, but previously flew on older DC-10s (Northwest and United); old jets retired several years back.

I'm so glad you got some footage of an MD-11 as there isn't really that much on youtube! It's a shame that most of these air frames are nearing their final legs now, I really wish I could go on one but I'm 14 so very limited! I guess most of them from this airline will go to FedEx so we will only ever be able to see them from the outside! Nevertheless, Great video!

Guessing that’s a PW4000 by the sound
@american01536 жыл бұрын
This engine is a PW4462. The 4462 has different spiral options. The CF6-80C2 series has a whine mixed with a buzzsaw sound.

+Mah584jr HD Aviation Of all the airliners in the world, the DC-10 and MD-11 are the ones I wish I could fly on most. I'm too young to have been around when they were big in passenger hauling.
@DH111d5 жыл бұрын
@@mah584jr Correct indeed. NO more commercial flights on the old DC-10s and the MD-11s. Charter carriers retired theirs too, as i recall. Biman was the last airline to fly the DC-10; Northwest was last USA Airline that flew them prior to its demise and merger with Delta. Miss flying on those old tri-jet birds that Northwest had.

Was this a CAMBER flight by any chance? World Airways were always involved with these troop flights and AJK (Allied Air) flights though AJKs used the MD-11F. A great carrier fell when World went bankrupt :o(

well the MD-11 operates PW4000 & GE-CF6 the DC-10 (predecessor of the DC-10) was sole operator of the GE CF6 (except the DC-10-40 used by NWA & JAL which uses JT9D)

Boeing build a new version of md11 type aircraft if they do the design will succeed if they want to
@DH111d5 жыл бұрын
I concur, though a real long-shot, I suspect. Fuel efficiency and better design, a must do for sure. No more of past checkered history of the MD-11 and its more checkered past predecessor, the DC-10. It would need to be for longer-haul flights for sure.
