WOW Thanks for sharing BLESSINGS An powerful woman Madame CJ Walker what a visionary. Perhaps Mary Kay was inspired by her but I'm sure it's not a part of their history.

@@MiamiPush2theLimit Unfortunately is this a very common situation for the process of books becoming movies and even more so when the characters at Black or persons of color.

Madam CJ Walker worked for Malone and gave her many of the ideas that she had and that's okay to say. We need to know that we can help each other.

They both used sulfur. Sulfur has been around for centuries. It's hard to give Mrs. Addie Malone props when she used the exact ingredients of products that were already in use.

When your Alelia Walker book is written, Queen Latifah must be cast in the role as Alelia. The physical resemblance between the two is uncanny as well as other lifestyles. This will be a role tailor made for Queen Latifah. KeKe Palmer should be cast as a teenage Alelia. Now start writing another Masterpiece. Alexia’s life had many 2nd generational inherited wealth facets ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great idea. I've always imagined Queen Latifah as A'Lelia Walker. She has the physicality and the sensibilities for the role. But you're right that the younger years require a different person now.

I wonder what Madame CJ Walker would think of the hair care of black women today. Like lace front weaves with the glue that is causing the unsettling loss of hair and other health issues. Her hair colleges taught black women to straighten and texturize their hair that enabled them to KEEP their hair into their senior years. I do believe that the home perm (gheri curl) was the beginning of the end of beautiful black women having the best looking hair in the world. Yes, and that includes afro's, braids, and yes, properly done perms. It hurts me as a black man to see our women killing themselves to put the hair of non black women on top of their natural hair. "A woman's hair is her crowning glory." My grandmother, who had the most gorgeous head of hair said that. Could Madam Walker's contributions make a come back? She knew how to take care of black women's hair without burning it out or ripping it out with unnatural adhesives. I wonder because I love my beautiful black women and I grew up in a time when ALL the black women I knew had healthy FULL heads of hair. Can this current state be turned around? I ask because I really care.

The blame doesn't truly lie with NetFlix. LeBron James, Blair Underwood, and Octavia Spencer produced the mini series, which means they controlled the script and the actors' roles. I place the blame of the inaccurate portrayal on them.

It’s not meant to be a documentary. Of course they’re going to take creative liberties. That’s to be expected.

According to this presentation, the Netflix miniseries is actually a lot closer to the truth than the controversy led me to believe.

Actually the Netflix series is not particularly close to the truth. Here's an article from The Undefeated that explains the differences theundefeated.com/features/netflixs-self-made-suffers-from-self-inflicted-wounds/

Ms Bundles, With all due respect, please watch the video made in the 1980’s with real life testimonies of very close acquaintances of Mrs Walker and her daughter Alelia. The testimonies provide authentic indisputable evidence of the unfolding journey of their sojourn. Go back-Revise your Presentation-Incorporate the 1980’s documentary into your book and future presentations. With all due respect. 💐

Thank you "Brilliant Diva." I'm very familiar with Stanley Nelson's 1989 documentary "Two Dollars and a Dream." In fact many images from my personal collection appear in the film and my friend Stanley used some of my research. I knew all of the people who appeared and had interviewed them as well. My godmother, Marjorie Stewart Joyner, and my grandfather, Marion Perry, appear in the film. In fact, I ran the sound equipment for my grandfather's interview and for the interview with Mrs. Nettie Johnson. Obviously one can't include everything in a 45 minute lecture. I do dozens of lectures each year and tailor each lecture to the audience. In this case, my focus was on Villa Lewaro because this was part of a "great houses" series. I think if you take the time to read my book On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker, you'll find a great deal of information.
