We are traveling to the most iconic locations in the Patagonia in Argentina, the imposing Fitz Roy and the Perito Moreno Glacier. One Legendary Road Trip for the books.
These roads are some of the most beautiful in the world. The views are spectacular everywhere you look, so this is a perfect way of finishing our trip with my parents.
Our first destination El Chaltén. Famous for its trekking possibilities. The way there is mind-blowing, the road leads directly to the Andes mountain range and one can see closer and closer the Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy between the clouds. Once we arrived we treated ourselves to one of the best steaks we have tasted in Argentina in La Oveja Negra (El Chalten). But the first hiccup was just around the corner, the rental Van, the Sprinter broke. The water system was already damaged and we had to repair it in the camping place we stayed in town. The next day it was a chill day until our shower tube broke, another thing to repair. But the rest of the day was wonderful around Lago del Desierto. Not too far from el Chalten and crossing Rio de las Vueltas, one can get to the lake that separates Argentina from Chile. If you take a boat like we did, you can see up close the many glaciers in the area. 10/10 experience.
next of course, we had to get to Laguna de los Tres and see the Fitz Roy up close. Both Karsten and I did it in record time, 2h15min to do the 10 km stretch. As we arrived we were nearly alone and could enjoy one of the most impressive views we have ever seen.
We left El Chalten and drove south towards Calafate. Amazing views all the way, and especially in a clear day the mountain range is visible at all times. We camped at the free camp in Lago Roca, where one can see the Perito Moreno glacier from afar. up to this date one of the most beautiful spots to camp. The next day we visited the glacier. The Perito Moreno glacier was until 2020 one of the few in the world that didn't retrieve. but in the last years, it has suffered a clear retrieve. Seating down here and watching massive pieces of ice break from it, was the perfect way of finishing an epic Road trip together with my parents. Next Tierra del Fuego!
Enjoy the Ride!

I really am impressed with you all and how you are traveling the world in your older Land Rover. You run into problems and just deal with them as they come without a lot of drama. Countless others wouldn’t travel there countries in their overly equipped very expensive rigs and you all are doing it like it’s nothing. Very encouraging and inspiring with very beautiful videos. I look forward to many more to come. Blessings on your future travels!

Hey!!! Once you experience a couple of setbacks, you put things into perspective. At this point not only we have had accidents, have been stuck countless of times, but also our landy broke many times. Once you experience the adrenaline following such an event, everything else kind of feels like a variation of it. You know the feeling of shock, worry, problem resolution and relieve. Drama normally doesn't help in the process, but one needs to learn this after it happens a couple of times. Those that go with over equiped rigs without experiencing any major setback most probably will struggle when things go sideways , because then most probably with such a rig, when it goes bad, it goes reeeeally bad. So yeah, always start small and don't feel afraid of failing, it will be better in the long run.

Great episode! Do you think your fuel line broke simply due to vibrations? Any upgrade I should consider? I am not quite the mechanic yet. :)
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy 2 ай бұрын
Hey David, no I sealed the fuel cooler the day before, and ever since the clip is not holding tide…. Nothing to worry about. The only thing you could do anyways is new fuel lines which is expensive and a bit overkill. I'm holding it in with two zip ties and it's good

hello, maybe stupid question but what's your average speed on open road with a standard engine and gear box on the Def?
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy 2 ай бұрын
Hey!! No stupid question. B roads normally we drive 80km/h, highways we try to keep it under 100km/h for better consumption. Dirt roads and off-road depends the type of terrain 🤗

I would like to make a point here... you are not visiting "THE" Patagonia. You are visiting the *Argentinian* Patagonia. But unless you visit the other 50%, the *Chilean Patagonia*, at least from Puerto Montt to Villa O'Higgins, you really can´t say you know *THE* Patagonia. Will all due respect to Argentina, which I love and have visited several times, you have to see the whole picture. The landscape changes radically. The 1200 kilometers of fiords, glaciers, mountains, volcanoes, lakes, hotsprings and forests you will find there will leave you speechless. There will almost no barren plains with mountains in the horizon. You will be between mountains the whole time. Guaranteed. Regards!
@Thebluelandy

Hey, Yeah up to this video, we saw mostly the Argentinian side of Patagonia, but in the coming 1-2 episodes we'll travel trough the Chilean parts too. Which side is nicer comes down to personal preferences.

Shame you guys can't continue your trip to the north. Did you visit the drug barons escaped hippos in Columbia?....probably not. On the plus side you'll be back in Europe for summer..... Much of the vegetation in this part of South Amerca is related to the trees found in New Zealand...(Beech trees...Notofagus [from memory) Kai's brother should check in to one of those sanatorium things when he gets back....he looks nuttier than usual.....sorry.....
@Thebluelandy
@Thebluelandy 2 ай бұрын
Hey Bert! I always look forward your comments, they always make me think out of the box, really. No, we didn't visit the hippos from Escobar, sadly we are more focused on keeping our Landy and ourselves alive until Cartagena. You will know what I mean when we share about this part of the trip 😅 we are so looking forward summer in Europe, and each one of us getting our "me" time (SO MUCH NEEDED). About Karsten, I believe he is way more grounded and in a better place mentally than us in general. Gotta learn from him actually 🧐 don't mistake his extra playfulness and 5 month old beard 🧔for something else haha
