It was an awesome maiden right up until I let her stall on a low altitude turn at too slow a speed. Basically I got to comfortable with her to quick!

I too had a tip stall crash with my SZD-54 on final approach! Minor damage, and a major lesson learned. Keep the speed up, straighten out and then lower the flaps to land. Problem solved!

Toothpicks help, but I'd take it a step further. when the glue dries, sand the lumpy bits smooth, get some acrylic paint, thin it a little bit with water and paint and blend the crack line with paint and you would be hard pressed to find the break. You can mix acrylic paints for any foamy color, so your model won't cause you to grit your teeth when you admire it.

Great flight. That was not a bad crash at all. Word to the wise. This plane can drop a wing on you and it is hard to recover if you are close to the ground. Thanks for sharing!

It glides :) This is a plane of your dream - parachuting on approach and landing itself. Try thermalling over your black-and-hot runway, it would be great!
@FatGuyFliesRC2 жыл бұрын
Catching thermals is fun but I film all my flights and that would be one long video and hard to show how without someone to zoom in for me.

Tip Stall, easy fix, but very docile glider at a great price point. Greg for those of us new to filming RC aircraft in flight could you please do a video on this subject. Include the equipment you use, how to upload the footage from the SD card to a computer, how to edit the footage, what are the best editing tools or programs to use and how to upload it to KZbin....

I will do my best but that's a tall order to put into a video. I will try but its going to be a while so keep a lookout for it. I will tell you that I film with a Gopro 8 hero using a hat came mount. I use a program called Magix Fastcut. here is a link: www.magix.com/us/support/know-how/tutorial-videos/fastcut/

If your looking for a little more strength than toothpicks try bamboo shish kebab Skewers. They add a little weight but great strength! I hope you never have to try this but it’s helped me tons! God bless.

I ended up using 2 small pieces of carbon fiber spars about the same size as tooth picks. The repair video will be up soon.
@troywilliams62913 жыл бұрын
Carbon fiber would be my first choice also, sometimes we’d like the steak but hamburger will have to do! Lol. Looking forward to the repair video but try not to do anymore! Haha

I love my SZD I use flap to elevator mix 8% for 25% and 12% for -30% flaps. I have mixed in some down on the throttle except when launching. I have tip stalled it and broke off one tip so u have to be careful low to the ground and turning. The prop takes a half a second or more to fold out and start powering the plane so do not hit the power too low. I also recommend doing a little painting on the wings to help orientation as that nearly all white plane can disappear, especially on a cloudy day. I use fluorescent orange on the upper wing tips and a dark blue 4-5" strip on the lower wing about 2/3rds the way out. Makes a big difference. I use an 1800 3S battery and I can still get a half an hour if I mainly use the motor just to get altitude. I have no plans to purchase another glider. If I had a good place to fly it I would consider the Nite Radian

All good tips. I will put black packing tape as stripes under the wing at some point.

Gliders like this give you a false sense of security low to the the ground.. flying them on a windy day is so much fun though! Have you tried the 4S conscendo?

Well I agree to disagree about the AWS-17 compared to this glider, It is much more durable and you get what you pay for. I respect your opinions I am sure at the price point its a great glider. After 50 flights from each plane lets see what glider holds up better?. Your Fan Tug👍😎⭐⭐⭐⭐✔🎥🎬🗽

Thanks, Please do not watch my videos on your phone, watch them on a big screen if possible. i do not have the ability to zoom in with a hat cam. And a hat cam is my only viable option for filming.
