A Vekoma SLC...just got 10/10. Guys...history has been made.
@NoahCoasterNerd2 жыл бұрын
This genuinely looks like a really good invert. I've always thought that Vekoma SLC's have a great layout, it's just the roughness and terrible restraints that usually keep them from being enjoyable. That being said I think the new trains on some SLC's already make a huge difference, I re-rode Condor at Walibi Holland last season and genuinely had fun on it. It's still as rough as before, but because of the vest restraints it doesn't hurt and in a way it even adds to the intensity. Really hope more parks are going to update their SLC's with new trains or possibly even a retrack like this one, because this model actually has potential to be great.
@jakevaughn97262 жыл бұрын
I think that it was a unique situation where the coasters supports are built into a pier so it was probably easier and cheaper to just retrack it. I think more parks need to bulldoze these at all other parks that can afford a new coaster

Terrific news that Vekoma can now provide this legacy model an update to show its full potential. Having ridden Mayan at Energylandia, which is one of the last ever SLC ever built, I concur when you claim you enjoyed Great Nor'Easter more than some of the B&M inverts. Let's hope the smooth track remains that way in the long run. That would be a spectacular redemption arc for Vekoma!
@UwePieper2 жыл бұрын
It definitely will be intersting to see how it holds up. Wouldbe intersting to know what changed with the new track. I‘d assume it‘s machined with tighter limits. That should help in the long run, as well - because it runs smoother and doesn’t put bigger forces and thus stress on some banging segments. The new trains are a godsend anyway.

That’s great to hear! In Walibi Holland stands the first SLC ever built (Condor) - and they replaced both trains with the new ones last year (over shoulder belt restraints just like @ Morey’s). Haven’t ridden Condor with the new trains, but a friend of mine did and he said that it is just a partial improvement, since the track is still pretty rough. So track replacements in combination with new trains seems like the only true solution. I also highly recommend the new STC in Tripsdrill. Rode it like 10 times and it’s an insane awesome ride. You should come back to Europe sometime this year and check it out. Then you can also give F.L.Y. a try - another unbelievable awesome ride by Vekoma. Definitely a must ride!

I'm glad to have Great Nor'easter at my home park. Definitely the best SLC for sure but the last few rides I had it ran quite rough but that probably had to do with the train being less than half full. The Vekoma vests are better and much more comfortable than the B&M vests found on Banshee, Gate Keeper, and Valravn. Morey's Piers loves updating their older attractions when they don't build anything new. Last new attraction was Runaway Tram in 2019 but since then, Sea Serpent got new trains in 2020 and is now my favorite Boomerang and Great White's finale got retracked last year with plans to add Timberliner trains (even though I prefer PTC trains over any other wooden coaster train). I prefer Great White, Sea Serpent, and Runaway Tram over Great Nor'easter but by no means GNE is a bad ride. Definitely a must do ride when visiting the piers. If only the price was cut in half - $13.50 is way too expensive for an SLC, Boomerang, and CCI even if they're the best of their kind.

As much as I'd love for other parks to update their SLCs, many of them just don't have that much of an incentive to make any changes. Take Gardaland for instance: despite Blue Tornado being a ride hated by enthusiasts, the GP doesn't really mind all that much, and many of them actively enjoy it despite its painfulness (which is frustrating because it makes us look like we hate the ride for no reason). And in the park's eyes they just don't see the point of spending $7,000,000+ on a ride that's going to be popular either way. (And yet they still decided to retrack Shaman, inadvertently making the ride worse than it was before... never change, Merlin...🙄) And then there's parks like Blackpool Pleasure Beach who just don't have the budget for it.
@stormingcoasters2 жыл бұрын
I think they should just remove the rides entirely and put something better in their place.
@MondoCoasters2 жыл бұрын
@@stormingcoasters I wish, but sadly my point still stands. They'd be spending even more money to instead replace a ride which was already very popular. Many parks, particularly corporate ones like the Merlin parks, don't really care that much about actual quality, as long as it's popular and it makes them money. They retracked Shaman because it wasn't doing too well popularity-wise, especially after the VR fiasco. Unless Blue Tornado's popularity declines, I don't see anything happening to it. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.
