The Great Ocean Walk in southwest Victoria owes it's rugged beauty to the sculpting forces of waves & wind of the Great Southern Ocean & it can be calm one day & treacherous the next, I walked this track from January 2-7 middle of summer yet on consecutive days we had 20ml & 50ml of rain & 113km winds yet ended it in blazing hot sun, that is the nature of this wild & beautiful landscape

Hi, what program are you using to see the terrain? many thanks and looks great!!
@JoeCarmona3 жыл бұрын
Thanks I am glad that you enjoyed it I use Google Earth & Google Earth Studio they 're all free you can upload a KLM file & it will plot your trip or you can create your own tour then once finished you can record it & I have used it extensively in my KZbin channel as it saves the use of a drone & can give an aerial view that aids in explaining the certain terrain that you're transversing.

Thank you for sharing your walk, I am hoping to do the Great Ocean Walk in March. How many hours did you walk each day?
@JoeCarmona3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rachel, I did it in 6 days doubling up in the first 2 stages- 22kms & 21kms as they are relatively easy & still finished those days around 4pm starting after 9 am, the other stages I walked roughly between 6 to 7 hours though the distances averaged about 14kms there was a fair of climbing & descending but above all there were the fantastic views that you had to absorb & video & it was worth not rushing through & take it all in. I did it between January 2-7 & you saw from the video first 2 days 20ml & 50ml rain so expect all kinds of weather, the campsites Johanna Beach, Devils Kitchen & Ryans Den are perched on top of a ridge & the views are magnificent & if you're lucky enough to have a brilliant sunset it will be unforgettable. Enjoy

I am also doing the GORW in March , starting from Apollo Bay on the 22nd, what are your dates ? Good luck and Buen Camino !
@JoeCarmona3 жыл бұрын
@@rachelwhiting4953 Only you know your own capabilities, the first 2 stages are easier I got to 1st campsite in the forest by midday leaving after 9am, it's the most likely place to spot koalas, I didn't see any but constantly heard the males crying out (they sound like wild pigs). The lighthouse is a good place to stop over as it's easy to spend some hours exploring the area, enjoy the walk either way

@@Elcondor2014 Hi I don't have a set date yet, travelling down from QLD so fingers crossed the border stays open. If leaving around your date I will let you know. Enjoy

Fantastic walk no doubt but As a limey don't do Venomous snakes I would be shit scared to camp there or walk or anything else inbetween

Ha Ha, unfortunately everything that moves Down Under can kill you but you have to be wary & treat them with respect. The statistics of death are quite low & you can't let those magnificent views in Oz go, I am quite sure with your background in cycling if you lived here you would be exploring every corner. All the best

@@JoeCarmona I used to visit 4 times a year as my daughter was in Melbourne . Its stunning but did come across a diamond back on a walk and shit myself. I like how in the Uk 🇬🇧 I can sit on any grass without looking
