The Rob Roy sword fight remains the most realistic with a brutal and satisfying ending.
@arklinmike3 ай бұрын
My favorite - you can see the moment Rob realizes he can't win just by swordplay, and devises to trick Archie.
@DashRendar3083 ай бұрын
@@arklinmike Is the other guys hand fixed to the sword or why does he not simply let go and step away?
@kurtsloop24623 ай бұрын
Archie didn't deserve to die. He was going to go to community college to get a degree in early childhood development. It was so unfair

"Cloven in twain" in the parlance of the times.
@a.t.o.mworkshop64093 ай бұрын
except it is "fool play". A dishonorable kill. And the fight is not realistic : The Archie was too close most of the time, could kill Rob twice just by extending his arm during spinning motions, spend his time using slash motion with a rapier while it primary purpose is stab motions... It is more crude and brutal as in other movies, but not realistic. Even the hand grabing the sword. Without gloves, his fingers would have been all over the place (at least the way he grabbed it). The only realistic part is that he struggle to grab his sword on the floor. Oh, and also, you are not drained of stamina that fast in a fight with so much pauses... or he has to comes from an exhausting travel or fight just before (didn't see the movie, sorry).

Flash was a brilliantly entertaining film. Loved it.

Agreed. I watched the original Flash Gordon with Buster Crabbe as a kid. Loved it. The Queen sound track was great.
@aaronleverton42213 ай бұрын
Cannot lie, when my aunt took me to see Flash in the cinema, every last part of it was thrilling. But Vultan playing with the axes of the platform was, to use a term I would learn much later, dirty pool. Shortly after I'd have a sleepover at my best friend's house and his family would go to the drive-in and we'd watch Flash, this time in my pyjamas and then a couple of years later, after moving to a new town my new best friend's stepfather would rent the VHS and it was the first time I'd seen a move not only more than once, but in multiple formats. Still love Flash, Jones, Dalton, Blessed and von Sydow are perfect, even if it isn't Jones' actual voice. And Ornella Muti? Sigh. Archibald Cunningham is so confident, thinking he's wearing Rob Roy McGregor down, even after McGregor realises that he can't win in a straight duel with the weapon and training he has and so changes his gameplan. I gress Arche wasn't as smart as his birth told him he was.

I never realized how superior Adrian Paul's swordfighting skills were compared to Christopher Lamberts.
@badnewsBH3 ай бұрын
I think Adrian is a trained martial artist, where Christopher probably learned just for films.
@sabataskull96613 ай бұрын
@@badnewsBH Also Lambert needs glasses to see, but he didn't use in many films. I think he did a good work. Adrian is more into martial arts by the way. He is great in the tv series, specially vs Anthony De Longis, a weapon Master in real life, see " Duende" fight with sword & dagger. Cosone vs Duncan.

Originally, the Indiana Jones fight scene, was a full fight scene. The actor playing the enemy swordsman spent weeks perfecting the combat sequences, only for Harrison Ford to get Dysentery, and the fight was shortened for comedic effect.
@Entropydemic3 ай бұрын
Amazing! I never heard that before. That was the most memorable moment for me in the series, while being a comedic moment, also taught me a valuable lesson about how some fights are better won when you don't fight at all.

This is the classic "don't bring a knife to a gun fight."
@paullowman9131Ай бұрын
@@Entropydemic Actually, the way I heard was that Ford, having dysentery, just didn't feel like a long fight sequence so he improvised by pulling out his pistol and shooting the swordsman. The swordsman had the presence of mind to play along and fall like he was shot; it was brilliant.

I agree, and I was going to suggest this until I saw your post. Great sword fight, going from foils to sabers, and despite the movie being a comedy sword fight is deadly serious. I'd also recommend the fight between Paul Atredies (Kyle MacLachlan) and Feyd-Rautha (Sting) from the movie "Dune" (1984) which involves knives.
