This is by far the absolute best tutorial video of the Roland SPD-SX ever. Ive been searching for a video like this for quite a while. Thank you so much for the tutorial. I have one question, I notice that on a lot of the tutorials there is red tape on the edges of the unit, They don't appear to be the Special edition, so what is the purpose for this tape?
@TimBuell3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words. Glad this is helping ya! The tape is gaff tape I put there so that during a gig when they black the stage out or the lighting is super dark I can still see the edge of the SPD haha

I do - but none for download haha. Sorry! The reason is a lot of the samples I've collected over the years are from sample packs I've purchased or artists I've worked with and I can't pass those around without permission.

I just bought one today and Im trying to wrap my head around it. is there a video where it tells you how to transfer samples from Logic Pro? this Spd-sx doesn't have very good snare or kick drums for metal/rock music. any suggestions?

I have a playlist here on KZbin that I believe covers that. If not, I actually have a course on my website that teaches SPD-SX. Feel free to reach out via my site if you have any questions! I'd love to help.

hey i noticed that he pads 1 2 3 are way less sensitive for some reason on my machine ..i have been adjusting sensitivity but maybe you discovered a pro tip along the way to remedy this ? i'd like to use them more than i do its a little annoying trying to not to beat the hell of the pad to get sound . ( i'm referring to the top little pads )
@TimBuell Жыл бұрын
Yep! Unfortunately that is a defect/oversight in the design. Kinda a bummer - I just always assign things to those pads that don’t require any dynamics or finesse haha
@tkknows3 жыл бұрын
Tim, I've searched all over and can't find any good guides to each of the Kit Effects and how they can be adjusted. Can you please address 1. That one pad/trigger can only have one effect applied to it at a time and 2. All the different effects (Reverb, Slicer, etc. ).

Hey Todd! I believe I mention that in this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXuyqHSkqseJq68 If not, feel free to reach out to me via the contact form on my site and I'll get you the help you need!

@@TimBuell Tim, thanks for pointing that out. I just watched and found that very helpful. Can you do a dedicated video on the Kit Effects versus Master Effects. Example: have camera on the screen itself showing how you navigate to kit effects, how you apply it to go through the master versus sub and phones. Show how you take Fx1 and route through specific pads versus Fx2 routing through other pads. And then can you walk through screens of the effects themselves and what each of the changes to a given effect do? No one's covered in this depth. Again, your videos are really helpful. Can you also do a video on mixing in a click. Do you pan right or left or have it centered? And then can you do one on your own personal monitor mix when you're playing a full kit? What percent in your mix is bass versus electric versus vocals and keys. Do you leverage panning in your mix? What do *you* like in your personal mix? For your own kit, how much of your kit do you feed through that mix? I have a lot of ideas ;)

We started using SPD-SX because we could get the sound we wanted with our system an issue my drummer is having is double firing and no ghost notes how do I make it more realistic for him
@TimBuell2 жыл бұрын
Double firing and ghost notes are a threshold/sensitivity issue. To get a more realistic feel (with ghost notes) you need to lower the sensitivity threshold for the pads (which you can do in the SPD-SX settings). The double edge sword is that lowering the sensitivity will make double firing more frequent and/or easy to do. So you kinda have to pick your poison.

4 GB - and it has always been enough for me. Especially if you do full back ups for certain artists and just load different full back ups for each person you work with.
