The original hole was to big I guess , so someone made a smaller hole

This woodpecker isn't trying to get in the nest box, if anyone is wondering. It's trying to make noise as loud as possible. This is called drumming and it's used to attract a mate. The metal acts as an amplifier, hence why it's drumming on the metal. Actually trying to drill is slower, and the woodpecker would put much more force in its drilling.

Well if he put the metal hold its to protect babies birds to be killed by the woodpecker. But on this footage yes the woodpecker is using this metal hold to attract his mate and telling to the others that's it's his territory.

Have you tried a public long horn speaker? Remove the magnet part and install a sheet of metal instead, welded around the hole. When the bird drums on, it will be heard 10 times louder and very far away. Try it.
