I met Bruce on a couple of occasions when he was living in East Croydon. I was a plumber and I went to his flat, it was owned by some organisation at church organisation , i done some work there, he gave me a book he’d had written and signed it for me, he might have been a criminal, but he was a gentleman, still have the book, and still have great memories of the times I was there.

The driver on the engine In the Great train Robbery in 1963 was Jack Mills, . I fired for Jack Mills in the 1950s at Crewe sheds. He had his regular fireman , but he was sick or on holiday , I did only fire for him a couple of trips, I got on with him alright.,I left the railway in 1954, and I never saw Jack again, very sad after all his hard work in his experience on steam to be treated terrible and never recovered to work again. It could have been my father in the 49 years my father was at Crewe sheds, fireman and eventually the driver. It was unusual for this type of offences on the steam engines, but life has changed so much since the 1950s.

Bruce Reynolds was treated with respect and looked like an intellectual, unlike Ronnie Biggs who spent 35 years on the run, was like a cheekie chappie, and treated with contempt, as though he was a child killer danger to society. Reynolds managed to evade capture for five years before his arrest in Torquay in November 1968.

Reynolds was the leader of the gang. Biggs almost a non-entity. When Reynolds died it was nothing like the major news story that the death of Biggs is. It is ludicrous that a man who had such a tiny role in this crime, including being nowhere near the train when the driver was attacked, should have received the same sentence as the rest, and even then, thirty years for the gang was far more than what rapists would have got, and there were no guns involved in this raid. I believe the Establishment cared far more about the gang making off with over two million pounds than the attack on Jack Mills. Is it any wonder that Biggs escaped, and then proceeded to cock a snook at the UK establishment? You don't have to admire Biggs for being part of this crime, but if his sentence had been proportionate, I doubt he would have escaped, and he would be a tiny, virtually forgotten, footnote in history

My dad was also an honest hard working man who paid his taxes and never took a day off sick even when he was genuinely ill as a result he died at the age of 64 stoking a boiler when he still had the flu (RIP dad) he left my mum me and my brothers with nothing; that's why I drifted into crime as a youth. This stuck me as totally unfair that after a lifetimes work a man's family had nothing to show for I've grown up now but as a youth I was resentful of society and saw nothing wrong with doing whatever it took to make money so that if I died my family wouldn't be left in the same situation

Why are they legends? What they did had no noble purpose. They were greedy, liked the thrill of the act and couldn't do honest work to earn their way in the world. The only reason you say this is because of the scale and "ingenious" with which they got the money and the following onslaught of praise from the press that over time turned them into roguish anti-heroes, Al Capone style.

If you win the birth lottery and are born/raised with wealth, then life is fantastic, you have a life where anything is possible and people fall over themselves to help you, if you don't then life is varying degrees of hard. It's decision time! These were just normal guys born without a silver spoon who decided why should some be born to live out their every desire and others a life of work, work and a bit more fucking work with nothing to show for it other than getting older/fading away. We are only here the once so they went for it and they did it in a manner without the extreme violence exhibited today for just looking at someone in the wrong way, huge amount of stabbings in the country right now and acid attacks of all things. Hats off to them, they went for it and gave two fingers to the establishment who were born lucky. The lions share of the rich haven't earned it, it's inherited wealth/power, upper class halfwits who if they did have to survive would struggle. Toffs like the Royal family. How being born/marrying into a certain family makes someone special is beyond me, just what world do we live in?? Go back far enough and most wealth/power is through ill gotten gains and using people/staff as little more than slaves or out right slaves breaking their backs for others to prosper or even worse waging war and sending millions of unfortunate poor to an early grave. Mr Reynolds lived a life by his rules, how many of us can say that?

The robbery itself was executed swiftly, cleanly, effectively. Then it seems all the participants experienced brain drain by treating their 'safehouse' with extreme reckless abandon with no thought of legal consequences, like leaving bags used in the robbery, leaving fingerprints for anyone to find, leaving the place in a horrific mess. All the investigators had to do was peer through any window to see something was seriously amiss; not long afterwards numerous men were caught. The idea was great. The overall execution was egregious.

Yes, they were legends other than the coshing of driver Mills. Not that bright either tho' - left their dabs at the farm, Biggs got a (steam) train driver, no plan to launder the money (they expected £40,000 each, got £147,000), all bad lads and known to the police, last one out didn't torch the farm. Ridiculous to think used bank notes were transported to be incinerated ! The sentences were over the top as a result of the Profumo affair and the Tories didn't get back into power anyway.

why the hell didn't he leave one behind and burn it too the ground... Can't believe he'd trust someone he didn't know with their liberty... Total madness. I'd have waited till the night when the lads had gone plastered it in fuel and burned it to the ground.. Then the bill couldn't have falsified any evidence... Once anyone gives their dabs its easy to "Lift them". And plant them wherever you want....

I admire the train robbers .also the job they did .buy he was on the job .so he got 30 .the same as the rest .they r not going 2 give him .10 just because he played a minor part .Next thing u no .they will be dishing out .7 s 10 s 15s 2 different members .depending on the role they played .the up set the hierarchy. And had 2 be made an example off .any 1 who attacks some 1 wearing the queen's symbol .postman .prison warder etc .can expect jail .if u thump a screw outside charges r bought in .if u clout a postman .then nick hid bad .u can expect jail .

LET US NOT GLORIFY THESE VIOLENT CRIMINALS. The innocent driver of the train was beaten so badly that he was never the same again and died not long after. Where was the glory in that? These people were/are thugs. Stop glorifying these monsters.

I am not glorifying anyone - re Bruce Reynolds he master minded the robbery & was not involved with the incident with train driver. I just film events & interesting people - it is up to the viewer to decide their viewpoint on whoever is filmed & I welcome all comments - thanks for watching
