Takedown model football boots are all about providing a great experience, at a lower price tag than the top models. However, just like the top-end football boots, the "budget friendly" options have also gone up in price. I don't know about you, but the higher the price tag, the more I expect.
In today's video we take a closer look at the new Nike Phantom GX 2 & Luna 2 Pro, the $160 & $170 options in the new Phantom line up, sitting just below the Elites. While they're a lot less expensive than the $260+ that you'd be spending on the top models, they're still pushing $200, calling into question the "value for money" aspect of these takedown model football boots. What do you get for the money and how do they compare to the more expensive models? We discuss all of that and more, helping determine whether or not these are a great value, or just too expensive. ​@latenight2202 the gripknit, at least on my first gen phantom gx, make a world of a difference when taking fast touches and controlling the ball overall. When I wear my leather magistas, you can easily tell that the ball does not want to stay at your feet when doing skills or running around players/cones

I was ready to return these before they were even delivered, but I was actually impressed with them. These typically go for $160 as mentioned in the review, but I luckily stumbled across these while a sale going and paid $125 included taxes (free shipping). They obviously don't have grip knit, but the upper didn't feel bad at all tbh and feel nice on feet. Felt like pretty high quality knit on the upper and still has good texture to it. Given I was able to get these for substantially cheaper than retail, I might just hang on to these rather than pay $140 more for the elites (plus elite ag models are tough to find nowadays).

It seems like the studs on the cyclone sole plates would be good at rotating one direction and but also would resist you when you try to rotate the other direction 😅

The new elite are worth the premium cost but the take down pros don't have the same touch or feel so not worth it to me.

I’d like to mention that the Phantom GX Pro 2 TF also has the Flyknit upper and “ACC”, which is surprising considering Nike take-down turf boots don’t usually have those kinds of technology. But too bad it has a very long form, we have to try at a shop to make sure we get the right size, usually down to 1 size compared to other models. Hopefully you’d review that variation someday

I think Nike are just using the acc logo on the pros as a marketing gimmick to get more people looking at the pro. also the academy gx2s are horrendous

Was not considering these at this price point. I would've just picked up some top end boots from last year for even cheaper, but found some reputable sites with coupon codes and free shipping. Brought the price down to roughly $120. I thought it was steal so I pulled the trigger lol.

These are just too expensive. It was just a few years ago I remember Nike 2nd tier models being $120-130 range, model dependent but there. Which makes this about a 30 to 40% price increase. Inflation hasn't been kind lately, but it has not been this bad. If we can blame constant development costs, then I definitely want (for other reasons too) longer model cycles to keep prices down. Look my wife and I do pretty well for ourselves, for context, but the thought of the top end boots now approaching $300 and these second tiers not far from $200, is not really justifiable.

Does the Tekela V4+ Pro offer better or equal ball control/upper grip than the GX2 Pro? It seems to me that Nike is falling into the same problem that Adidas did some time ago, that only the top end models offered real benefits over other makers. Although, the Pros were always "bad deals" compared to the Academies and Elites

And that's the reason why GX2 Pro sells so crazy in China, a pair of past high end football boots for 70 - 90, that's a very descent deal, other wise for 160, well none gonna even consider about it.
