Bro that spot’s notorious for very large great whites. The fish there are always massive and so are the sharks. I was actually supposed to be there one day when some buddies of mine got bumped by a 15 to 18 footer. Just know that if you see sea lions there, it’s always a good sign. If you don’t see sea lions there, it’s because the sharks are there that day. There’s a sea lion reserve nearby that spot.

This same thing just happened to me 2 days ago in La Jolla.. I was by myself with no one near me and it circled me for a similar amount of time. But it was circling about 2x as fast as that white shark was. Didn’t swim away until I swatted my paddle at it. Easily one of the most nerve racking experiences of my life!

Good move to huddle up when seeing the shark. Also smart to be ready with something to bonk them in the nose if they get too close. But, best to pull all stringers with fish and bait into the boat and wait them out. Glad to see you guys made it to do another video!

My advice is to always drag your catch behind you. Tie it to the kayak so you know when something big is eating your fish. Maybe you can get a sleigh ride from a big great white shark, now that would be epic!! Let's watch and see what happens
@aaronwalker8847
@aaronwalker8847 Жыл бұрын
You don't want no sleigh ride from no shark. Kayaks are false keel , displacement hull boats. They can only go so fast before they flip back over front or visa versa. If you get drug backward, you flip at lower speed than fwd. . Long story short, if the shark drags you by a fish stringer. Which doesn't have drag like a rod and reel. You are going swimming with the shark. If that happens - You're gonna have a bad time. Itll be most un-epic. I had about a 8 foot bull shark dragged me under by my stringer of fish. When I was surf fishing in grand isle Louisiana, muddy water. He drug me a good 25 yards out before I cut the stringer and got loose. That was the scariest swim back in I ever had. Lost my favorite penn reel that day too.

I kayak fish in Florida for a week or 2 every year, I would never leave a fish on a stringer because I don't want a shark or alligator yanking on them! I never let fish blood or caught fish enter the water. Try a fish bag on the back. Where I am you would last 30 mins hanging fish over the edge. Also the shark would capsize you pulling the fish on rope. Still have my Hobie but now use a small boat for deeper offshore stuff.

In the earlier days (1960's), Fishermen used to clean their fish at the dock, where they would just throw the fish heads and guts in the water. But in the water were lots of sharks swimming around that spot, scavaging up the remains. Some were rather large great whites, lumbering through the frenzy. You must not forget, that we are in the Great White Shark Triangle. Over the years, on occasion, fishermen on small boats have been known to have been knocked out of their boats and consumed by sharks. Obviously Likely by a great white shark. Stories of boats turned upside down, floating in the water, with no fisherman in sight. So it is by recommendation that even in a boat no bigger than 16 feet, it's advisable to not go out alone. No less in a kayak, is risky beyond a sane man to go out alone. Great whites are seasonal. Most of the time you won't see them, or they are under the water where you can't see them. And as you should notice, that shark was circling you with a motive. That is the time to pull out and put some distance between you and the Great White Shark!

And what exactly is a buddy going to do if your boat is flipped and you go for your last swim. If the shark wants to eat you, you’re screwed and there isn’t anything a buddy is gonna do but crap him/herself. Now I agree having a buddy is a smart practice for a whole host of reasons but don’t kid yourself or anyone else that having a buddy makes it safer to be around a great white… if your number is pulled and it’s your turn, buddy or not you’re done.

@@Stoops1973 You do have somewhat of a point. There was this guy, that used to frequently go out in the ocean, outside the breakwater, in this little blue dingy. I always figured the guy must be a little dingy in the head. Year after year I would see him go out; then I never saw him again. I will probably always wonder if he just got a bigger boat, or if his fate got swallowed up by jaws. If you are in Australia, the sharks come up from the bottom and ram the bottom of the boat. Our white sharks don't seem to do that as much in our waters here. But they will come along the edge of a boat and bite it to test it. In a small craft like a kayak, would be devastating. As long as you wear a wetsuit, in a kayak, with floatation, you stand a better chance. And with someone nearby, even better. I would suggest carrying a shark bang stick. And on your person; if you land in the water, you will need to have it readily handy.

@@bruceholbrook5995 I’ve been fortunate enough to have had two 16-18ft great white sharks swimming directly underneath me while out fishing…. Fortunately, I was on a 95ft sport fishing vessel. It was intimidating enough then, I can’t imagine being out on my 12 foot kayak and having the same experience. Surely I would shit myself and possibly have an aneurism. I’ve been out on tomales and at pacifica and haven’t seen one and certainly hope if I do it is a pleasant experience. We had to run in with a pretty big juvenile shark out at Sea Cliff Beach a month or so ago. It looks to be about 8 to 10 ft and it circled our boat for about 20 minutes coming right next to the boat and putting its eye up looking right at us. We were on a boat and not a kayak so the experience was more fun and less scary.
