Back in the 50's and 60's when Alfred Dean set all those world record great white catches off the South Coast of your country, we here in Texas were amazed and thrilled to catch a shark in the surf over 8 feet long. No whites but lots of tigers, hammers, and bull sharks, all of which could, and did take a 6 foot tarpon from our line occasionally. Glad you went after abalone deep in the rocks after that. But remember, Alf used parts of porpose for bait, and whites also feed on seals.

I have seen footage of those massive great whites caught here in Australia, amazing creatures, but of course no one does that anymore because we now know they all have their important roles to play in keeping the oceans healthy 👍

Appreciate the footage of the underwater environment. It all looks so green and full of life, and the seals are awesome. Great white sharks are very interesting. I'm told that, if one grabs you, you must punch it on the nose with your fists. When are you going to catch another dhu fish?

Southern Aussie coastline with seal colonies in my mind = pointer central, dive/swim at your own risk, because I'll guarantee they'll be there. I know a dude from here in South oz who went cage diving over at Port Lincoln. He did 4 dives over 2 days in 2 separate areas and saw 15 different individual pointers all over 12 foot, a couple he reckons were around the 18 foot mark. Keep yer head on a swivel fellas

Why do you use a paint scraper instead of a proper abalone iron, it takes so long for you to get them off and also you damage the foot meaning if you can’t get it off or it turns out undersize it will die. You have a responsibility to show your viewers the correct method of harvesting them.
@fishmut
@fishmut 2 жыл бұрын
Peter he has been getting abalone for a long time , I’d recon he knows exactly what size he’s getting from the bottom , you obviously haven’t watched his other videos .
@guvnermcgovern
@guvnermcgovern 2 жыл бұрын
@@fishmut I held an area2 ab licence (Busselton jetty to Shoal Cape) in the eighties and have pulled more than 50 tonnes of meat weight in that time Gido is irresponsible for using an inappropriate tool and is clearly struggling to remove the abs when it should only take half a second or so with the correct tool also a lot of inexperienced people watch his videos and they may think that a paint scraper is the thing to use and subsequently many abalone are cut leading to their death.
@tassieadventureman
@tassieadventureman 2 жыл бұрын
The ab knife is so much easier and better aye. When we where young we used to use a screwdriver but yeah same thing, kinda does a lot of damage to the shell.
@guvnermcgovern
@guvnermcgovern 2 жыл бұрын
@@tassieadventureman Yeah before I bought the abalone license I used to lever them off with anything even my spear tip but at least you could actually apply leverage whereas the paint scraper will just bend so you have to try to slide it underneath over a reasonable area to make it let go and inevitably damage the foot in the process as seen in the video, here in New Zealand the Paua divers chip off a dozen or so on one breathhold try that with Gido’s paint scraper.

Your unreal, scale up and down cliffs and scared of sharks haha. You got seals, you got sharks. Nice abalone. Should bleed your abalone, makes them more tender and have your oil super hot, you cooked them quickly which is the other key. Nice change from your normal rock fishing.
